About The Role
As a Data Engineer at Zonneplan, you will play a critical role in building and enhancing our central data platform that supports the entire organization. Your work will involve developing reliable data pipelines, ensuring data quality and security, and laying the technical foundation for our upcoming machine learning platform. You will collaborate closely with teams across engineering, Trading & Optimization, GenAI, and other development units to translate data requests into scalable, self-service solutions. Your contributions will directly impact how efficiently teams access and utilize data, enabling faster decision-making and more autonomous data workflows. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI integrations, including tools like Claude Code, and to influence Zonneplan’s journey towards becoming a data-driven and AI-empowered organization. You will work in a dynamic environment that encourages innovation, automation, and continuous improvement, all aimed at supporting our ambitious plan Zero for a sustainable future.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role
- Proficiency in SQL and data modeling techniques
- Experience with building and managing reliable data pipelines
- Strong understanding of data quality, reliability, and security best practices
- Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical colleagues
- Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and automation
- Experience with tools such as Dagster, Snowflake, Postgres, Kafka, dbt, Airbyte, Kubernetes, or AWS is a plus
- Familiarity with data mesh or self-service analytics concepts is advantageous
- Comfort with adopting new tools and technologies quickly
- Experience integrating AI tools like Claude Code into workflows is beneficial
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable data pipelines and models that serve the entire organization
- Monitor data workflows, identify issues early, and resolve problems proactively to prevent impact on dashboards, analyses, or ML applications
- Implement data security measures, access controls, and data quality checks to ensure responsible data usage
- Translate organizational data requests into robust, self-service solutions to reduce processing times
- Build and establish the technical foundation for the ML platform, collaborating with developers to meet platform requirements from model training to deployment
- Leverage AI tools like Claude Code to automate repetitive tasks, improve development processes, and enhance documentation and monitoring
- Continuously evaluate and improve data processes, pipelines, and security protocols
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and deliver technical solutions that support business objectives
