About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Machine Learning Engineer to join our team dedicated to advancing intelligent mobility solutions. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and refining edge GenAI models for the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, contributing to the future of automated driving and voice assistant technologies. Your responsibilities will include selecting and adapting base models, producing clean and reproducible training pipelines, and implementing compression strategies such as quantization, pruning, and distillation to optimize models for cost-efficient inference. Collaboration with performance engineers on hardware-aware model variants and performance KPIs will be essential to ensure models meet latency and memory requirements within hardware constraints. Additionally, you will document design choices, trade-offs, and create model cards for audit and compliance purposes. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of AI, automotive engineering, and user experience, shaping the future of mobility for millions of users worldwide.
Qualifications
- University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Several years of experience in applied machine learning and model engineering
- Proficiency in PyTorch and Transformers frameworks
- Expertise in model compression, alignment, and fine-tuning of small GenAI and ML models
- Experience in building evaluation suites and performing statistical analysis of model behavior
- Practical knowledge of edge device constraints such as RAM, bandwidth, cache, and cold start considerations
- Professional proficiency in English; German language skills are a plus
Responsibilities
- Select and adapt base models for voice assistant and intelligence tasks
- Develop and maintain clean, reproducible training, finetuning, and evaluation pipelines
- Implement compression strategies including quantization, pruning, and distillation to optimize models for deployment
- Collaborate with performance engineers to develop hardware-aware model variants and optimize performance
- Manage latency and memory KPIs, ensuring models meet hardware and budget requirements
