AI Software Engineer

Blu Omega is seeking an AI Software Engineer to support the CDC NCEH program. This role is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining data pipelines, AI solutions, and analytics platforms within a federal environment.

Supporting the mission of the CDC National Center for Environmental Health to advance public health through data and AI-driven solutions.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes for ingesting, transforming, and loading data from diverse sources (SQL, R, Python)
- Build and optimize data architectures and models to support analytics, reporting, and operational needs
- Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines for data workflows using tools such as Git
- Develop and deploy cloud-based solutions leveraging Azure Functions and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes
- Collaborate with DBAs and application developers to design and integrate data models, stored procedures, and APIs
- Ensure data quality and integrity through validation, monitoring, and logging
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues in production to ensure high availability and reliability
- Document data flows, processes, and technical solutions for knowledge sharing and compliance
- Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering, cloud, and DevOps
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Federal Public Trust clearance
- Bachelor’s degree
- Five (5) years of experience in data engineering, software development, or related roles
- Hands-on experience with AI solutions, including prompt engineering, machine learning, agentic AI, and RAG concepts
- Experience with programming languages including Java, Python, SQL, and PySpark, as well as API development (RESTful and SOAP)
- Extensive experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and MongoDB
- Proven expertise with data pipeline and ETL development
- Experience with Databricks and cloud deployment
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools and pipelines, particularly GitHub
- Experience working in Agile development environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting federal programs or large-scale data modernization projects
- Familiarity with version control and collaboration tools like Git and Azure DevOps
- Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies
- Understanding of security best practices and compliance in federal environments
- Experience with microservices, Spring Boot, and integrating AI/ML components
- Previous consulting experience
Compensation
Salary Range: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00
Final compensation is based on technical skills, experience, education, certifications, and clearance.
