Blu Omega is seeking a Java Developer to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health IT programs. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining secure, reliable, and maintainable Java applications supporting mission-critical healthcare and federal technology initiatives.

The VA runs programs benefiting veterans and their families, including education, rehabilitation, compensation payments, home loan guarantees, pensions, burials, and health care services.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, maintain, and enhance Java applications and integrations throughout the software development lifecycle
- Translate functional and technical requirements into secure, maintainable, and well-tested application code
- Develop and support APIs, system integrations, data validation, logging, and secure error-handling capabilities
- Create and maintain automated tests to improve application quality and support reliable releases
- Participate in code reviews, troubleshooting, debugging, and defect resolution
- Support CI/CD processes and deployments across application environments
- Troubleshoot application and integration issues and provide production support as needed
- Identify technical risks and recommend practical improvements to application reliability, performance, security, and maintainability
- Develop and maintain technical documentation supporting application functionality, integrations, and operational processes
- Collaborate with analysts, architects, testers, DevSecOps engineers, product owners, and stakeholders in an Agile environment
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software development experience using Java or a closely related technology stack
- Strong hands-on experience designing, developing, testing, and maintaining enterprise applications
- Experience developing or supporting APIs and system integrations
- Experience with automated testing, source control, code reviews, and CI/CD practices
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across application and integration environments
- Understanding of secure coding practices and modern software development lifecycle methodologies
- Strong documentation, communication, and collaboration skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain required government credentials, including a PIV
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting the VA, federal health IT programs, or other regulated healthcare environments
- Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, Git, Microsoft 365, and Agile tools
- Knowledge of federal security, compliance, and application delivery requirements
Compensation
Salary Range: $110,000.00 - $125,000.00
Final compensation is based on technical skills, experience, education, certifications, and clearance.
