DevOps Engineer (Hyperscalers Specialist)

ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are hiring on behalf of a confidential client — a US-based marketing and technology agency delivering innovative digital experiences for leading brands. As a DevOps Engineer (Hyperscalers), you will take a key role in building, managing, and maintaining robust cloud environments with a primary focus on GCP and secondary experience in Azure, applying modern DevOps practices to drive scalable and reliable solutions.
➧ Cloud Environment Design & Implementation (GCP Primary, Azure Secondary):
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure, and highly available development, staging, and production environments across GCP and Azure.
- Leverage and optimize native GCP services (e.g., Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Cloud Functions, App Engine, Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Build, Cloud CDN) to build robust and cost-efficient solutions.
- Provision and manage core Azure services (e.g., Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Azure SQL Database, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure DevOps Pipelines).
- Ensure architectural patterns follow cloud best practices for resilience, observability, and cost management.
➧ Automation & Infrastructure as Code (IaC):
- Develop, implement, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform (strong proficiency required) and/or Google Cloud Deployment Manager for GCP, and Azure Bicep/ARM templates for Azure.
- Automate provisioning, configuration, and management of cloud resources and services.
- Create and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines using Cloud Build (GCP) and Azure DevOps Pipelines to automate application and infrastructure deployments across multiple environments.
- Develop and maintain scripts (e.g., Python, Go, Bash, PowerShell) for automating operational tasks, system health checks, and security remediations.
➧ Monitoring, Logging & Observability:
- Implement and manage comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions using Google Cloud's operations suite (Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, Cloud Trace, Error Reporting, Application Performance Management) for GCP.
- Utilize Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and Log Analytics for Azure environments.
- Establish dashboards and alerts to proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, errors, and security incidents.
- Drive the adoption of observability best practices across our platforms.
➧ Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) & Performance Optimization:
- Apply SRE principles to improve the reliability, scalability, and performance of our systems.
- Perform performance analysis and tuning for cloud infrastructure and applications.
- Implement disaster recovery, backup strategies, and high-availability solutions for critical systems.
- Participate in on-call rotations and incident management, performing root cause analysis (RCA) and implementing preventative measures.
➧ Security & Compliance (DevSecOps):
- Implement and enforce security best practices across all cloud environments, adhering to DevSecOps principles.
- Manage Identity and Access Management (IAM) on GCP and Azure, including Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and service accounts.
- Configure network security (VPC Service Controls, firewall rules, security groups) and data encryption.
- Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and ensure compliance with relevant industry standards.
➧ Collaboration & Mentorship:
- Work closely with development, QA, and project management teams to understand requirements and facilitate seamless software delivery.
- Provide expert guidance and technical mentorship to development teams on cloud-native patterns, DevOps practices, and platform optimization.
- Foster a culture of automation, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing within the TechOps team.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of experience in a DevOps, SRE, or Cloud Engineering role, with significant hands-on experience in cloud environments.
➧ Strong expertise (3+ years dedicated experience) with Google Cloud Platform
(GCP) services, including:
- Compute: Compute Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Cloud Functions, App Engine.
- Networking: VPC, Cloud Load Balancing, Cloud DNS, Cloud CDN, Interconnect/VPN.
- Storage & Databases: Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, Big Query, Fire store/Datastore, Memory store.
- Developer Tools: Cloud Build, Cloud Source Repositories.
- Operations: Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, Cloud Trace, Error Reporting.
- Security: IAM, Cloud KMS, VPC Service Controls, Cloud Armor.
➧ Solid experience (1-2 years hands-on) with Microsoft Azure services, including:
- Compute: Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Virtual Machines.
- Networking: VNets, NSGs, Load Balancers.
- Developer Tools: Azure DevOps (Pipelines).
- Expert proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform.
- Strong scripting and automation skills in Python (preferred), Go, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Extensive experience with CI/CD pipeline design and implementation.
- Deep understanding of containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes, especially GKE and AKS).
- Proficiency with version control systems (Git).
- Strong understanding of network protocols, cloud security best practices, and secure by design principles.
- Experience with monitoring, alerting, and logging tools.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Google Cloud Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer certification.
- Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect certification.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert certification.
- Experience with serverless architectures.
- Familiarity with data streaming and messaging services (e.g., Kafka, GCP Pub/Sub).
- Experience with Sitecore, Adobe Experience Cloud, Optimizely, or Veeva platforms deployed in cloud environments.
