About The Role
As a Senior AI Engineer at appliedAI, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and deploying advanced AI systems tailored for industrial applications. Your expertise will drive end-to-end AI solutions in demanding environments, including regulated sectors with plant-grade infrastructure. You will take ownership of complex projects, ensuring high-quality, production-ready AI systems that meet operational, security, and compliance standards. Your responsibilities will include architecting innovative AI solutions such as classical machine learning models, generative AI applications, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agentic systems, all while considering edge constraints and deployment models like on-premises or hybrid environments. You will set engineering standards, promote best practices, and lead the technical delivery process from initial architecture to client handover. Additionally, you will foster a culture of continuous improvement by mentoring engineers, developing reusable frameworks, and driving technical excellence within the team. Your work will directly influence how AI is integrated into industrial settings, ensuring scalable, secure, and operationally mature solutions that deliver measurable value to clients.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- At least 5 years of experience building and operating AI/ML systems in production environments.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, APIs, data pipelines, and cloud-native architecture (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
- Proficiency in Python and modern AI stacks, including PyTorch, LangChain/LangGraph, vector stores, and evaluation frameworks.
- Experience with containerization, CI/CD pipelines, and MLOps practices.
- Proven track record leading complex AI projects in client-facing or industrial settings.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a pragmatic, code-first approach.
- Excellent communication skills in English; proficiency in German is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement production-grade AI solutions for industrial clients, including classical ML, GenAI, RAG, and agentic systems.
- Ensure solutions adhere to OT/edge constraints, validation gates, and deployment requirements such as on-premises or hybrid environments.
- Define and uphold engineering standards related to code quality, design reviews, observability, security, and MLOps processes.
- Lead technical delivery from architecture design through production deployment and client handover.
- Develop reusable engineering tools, templates, libraries, and evaluation frameworks to enhance team productivity.
- Mentor mid-level and senior engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
- Collaborate closely with project stakeholders to align technical solutions with business goals and client expectations.
