About The Role
The Senior Staff AI Engineer at Capital One is a pivotal role within the Intelligent Foundations and Experiences (IFX) team, responsible for advancing the company's AI capabilities. This role involves designing, developing, deploying, and supporting sophisticated AI systems that enhance customer interactions and operational efficiencies. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including research scientists, engineers, and product managers, to build scalable, responsible, and high-performance AI solutions. You will contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems, employing state-of-the-art models and optimization techniques to deliver impactful products. Your work will directly influence how Capital One leverages AI to serve its customers better, ensuring responsible and scalable deployment of emerging AI technologies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 10 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies, or a Master's degree in the same fields plus at least 8 years of relevant experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of programming experience with Python, Go, Scala, or Java.
- Experience deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
- Proven ability to architect, design, develop, and support complex enterprise AI systems.
- Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring engineering teams and influencing stakeholders up to senior management levels.
- Hands-on experience with AI and ML algorithms, including LLM inference, similarity search, VectorDBs, guardrails, and optimization techniques.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly.
- Deep understanding of hardware and software optimization for AI training and inference.
Responsibilities
- Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products that transform customer engagement and operational workflows.
- Design, develop, test, and deploy AI software components, including foundation model training, large language model inference, and observability tools.
- Leverage open-source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, Nemo Guardrails, PyTorch, and others to build scalable solutions.
- Implement innovative LLM optimization techniques to enhance performance metrics such as scalability, latency, throughput, and cost-efficiency.
- Contribute to the technical vision and strategic roadmap for foundational AI systems at Capital One.
- Ensure responsible AI practices by integrating governance, guardrails, and compliance measures into AI systems.
- Stay current with the latest research and advancements in AI and machine learning, applying new techniques judiciously in production environments.
