About The Role
The Lead AI/ML Engineer (Platform, Kubeflow) will play a pivotal role in advancing Capital One’s AI infrastructure and platform capabilities. This position involves designing, developing, and deploying scalable AI and machine learning solutions that power the company's innovative banking products. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including research scientists, software engineers, product managers, and technical program managers to deliver AI-powered features that enhance customer engagement and operational efficiency. They will be responsible for building and optimizing large-scale AI systems, focusing on foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, and governance. The role requires a deep understanding of cloud-based AI platforms, particularly Kubeflow, and a passion for implementing state-of-the-art techniques to improve system performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency. The Lead AI/ML Engineer will contribute to shaping the technical vision and long-term roadmap of Capital One’s AI foundation, ensuring responsible and scalable deployment of AI solutions across the organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 4 years of experience in AI/ML development
- Master's degree in relevant fields plus at least 2 years of experience in AI/ML development
- Minimum of 4 years programming experience with Python, Go, Scala, or Java
- Experience deploying AI solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure
- Strong understanding of AI frameworks and tools including PyTorch, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, and AWS Ultraclusters
- Proficiency in designing and optimizing large language models, inference systems, and scalable AI architectures
- Knowledge of AI governance, model evaluation, experimentation, and observability best practices
- Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and strong communication skills
Responsibilities
- Partner with interdisciplinary teams to develop AI-powered products that improve customer interactions and operational workflows
- Design, develop, and support AI software components including foundation model training, large language model inference, and similarity search systems
- Implement and optimize AI models and pipelines using open-source and SaaS technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, and VectorDBs
- Invent and apply cutting-edge LLM optimization techniques to enhance performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency of AI systems
- Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of Capital One’s AI foundation platform
- Ensure AI solutions adhere to governance, compliance, and ethical standards
- Monitor, evaluate, and improve AI system performance through experimentation and observability tools
- Stay current with the latest research in AI and machine learning, and judiciously incorporate innovative techniques into production systems
