About The Role
The Senior AI Engineer at Capital One is a pivotal role within the Intelligent Foundations and Experiences (IFX) team, responsible for advancing the company's AI capabilities. This role involves designing, developing, and deploying sophisticated AI software components, including foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, and governance frameworks. The Senior AI Engineer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams comprising engineers, research scientists, product managers, and technical program managers to deliver AI-powered products that revolutionize how customers interact with Capital One and how associates work internally. The role demands a deep understanding of state-of-the-art AI techniques, a passion for building scalable and responsible AI solutions, and the ability to translate scientific research into practical, high-performance applications. The Senior AI Engineer contributes to shaping the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic objectives and industry best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 3 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies.
- Master's degree in relevant fields plus at least 1 year of experience in AI/ML development.
- Proficiency in programming with Python, Go, Scala, or Java for a minimum of 3 years.
- Strong foundation in engineering and mathematics, with expertise in hardware, software, and AI optimization techniques.
- Experience with deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure (preferred).
- Knowledge of AI and ML algorithms, including large language models, similarity search, vector databases, and guardrails.
- Experience with open-source AI technologies like Huggingface, PyTorch, Nemo Guardrails, and cloud-based AI tools.
- Ability to interpret scientific publications and apply innovative techniques in production environments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset.
Responsibilities
- Partner with multidisciplinary teams to develop AI-powered products that enhance customer and employee experiences.
- Design, implement, test, and support AI software components, including foundation models, inference engines, and governance frameworks.
- Leverage open-source and SaaS AI technologies to build scalable, efficient, and responsible AI solutions.
- Innovate and implement state-of-the-art optimization techniques to improve the performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency of AI systems.
- Contribute to the technical vision, strategy, and long-term roadmap for foundational AI systems at Capital One.
- Evaluate and experiment with emerging AI research to incorporate cutting-edge techniques into production systems.
- Ensure AI solutions adhere to governance, compliance, and ethical standards, including observability and safety guardrails.
