About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join our Mapping organization remotely within the United States. This pivotal role involves leading the development of next-generation mapping systems that utilize ML-driven pipelines for automated map reconstruction. The successful candidate will serve as a technical leader, architecting and implementing end-to-end ML and computer vision solutions that reconstruct, validate, and maintain critical map primitives such as lanes, boundaries, traffic controls, and signs from large-scale sensor data. This role requires a hands-on approach, guiding cross-functional teams across Mapping, Perception, Localization, Simulation, and Infrastructure to ensure the delivery of reliable, scalable, and innovative mapping solutions for autonomous driving applications. The position offers the opportunity to influence technical strategy, mentor engineers, and contribute to the advancement of autonomous vehicle technology on a national scale.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in building and deploying machine learning or computer vision systems in production environments
- Strong foundation in computer vision, machine learning, or robotics, with hands-on experience designing and training ML models
- Proficiency in Python; familiarity with C++ or other systems programming languages is a plus
- Experience developing large-scale data pipelines for ML, including dataset curation, labeling workflows, model training, and evaluation
- Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional technical initiatives independently
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience
- Strong systems thinking skills, with the ability to reason about end-to-end ML systems
Responsibilities
- Architect and lead ML-driven map reconstruction systems capable of operating at a national scale using multi-modal sensor data such as camera, lidar, radar, and vehicle signals
- Design and implement comprehensive pipelines for offline map reconstruction, including data mining, labeling strategies, model training, evaluation, and deployment
- Define technical strategy and system architecture for future mapping capabilities, ensuring robustness, safety, and operational scalability
- Lead the development and application of state-of-the-art computer vision and ML techniques, including detection, segmentation, 3D reconstruction, and Bird’s Eye View (BEV) representations
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define interfaces, data contracts, and integration points for mapping, perception, localization, and simulation systems
- Mentor senior and staff engineers, fostering technical excellence and best practices across teams
- Diagnose and resolve system-level issues within data pipelines, ML models, and production workflows
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for ML-based mapping and reconstruction, contributing to technical roadmaps and capability building
Benefits
- Comprehensive health and wellbeing programs including medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Retirement savings plans and flexible spending accounts
- Paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave
- Tuition assistance and professional development opportunities
- Employee assistance programs to support mental health and work-life balance
