MAU is hiring an R&D Design Engineer for our client in Duncan, SC. As an R&D Design Engineer, you will design and develop new ERPD product concepts from ideation through functional prototypes, supporting testing, design improvements, and the transition of new designs into production. This is a direct-hire opportunity.

Required Education and Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field

- Experience in product design and development

Preferred Education and Experience

- Product design and development experience with medical devices or capital equipment

- Hands-on experience with manual machining, CNC machining, 3D printing, and/or welding

General Requirements

- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset with attention to detail

- Excellent cross-functional communication and collaboration skills

- Willingness to travel occasionally (10–20%) to support field testing, evaluations, and customer trials

- Builder’s mindset with the desire to help create a world-class R&D organization

- Proficiency in CAD software; SolidWorks required

- Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems preferred

- Understanding of radiation shielding materials and principles preferred

Essential Functions

- Design and develop new ERPD product concepts from ideation through functional prototype

- Create 3D CAD models, drawings, and specifications for new products, assemblies, and components

- Build, test, and iterate on physical prototypes to validate mechanical, electrical, and radiation-shielding performance

- Conduct feasibility studies, materials research, and radiation attenuation testing in support of new designs

- Collaborate with Field Applications, Clinical, and Sales teams to translate customer and field feedback into design improvements

- Support design-for-manufacturability (DFM) efforts and the transition of new designs into production

- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, bills of materials, and design history files

- Ensure designs comply with applicable medical device, radiation safety, and industry standards

- Partner with Field Applications Specialists to troubleshoot field issues and inform design revisions

- Other duties as assigned
