It manages diverse employee payroll arrangements, including remote workers and secondees abroad, ensuring accurate and timely compensation while complying with extensive federal, state, and local tax regulations.
2. About the Opportunity:
The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing the complete payroll process, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time across various locations. This role directly manages payroll processing for assigned US offices and supports international payroll coordination. The position contributes to maintaining compliance with tax laws and labor regulations, supervising payroll tax filings, and managing a team to uphold payroll accuracy and efficiency.
3. Responsibilities:
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing for US employees in all relevant states, including remote workers
- Audit new employee tax setups and verify payroll registers for accuracy prior to processing
- Oversee updates of employee payroll information, including new hires, salary changes, and terminations
- Review and manage employee time log approvals and guide necessary adjustments
- Administer insurance benefit deductions within the payroll system
- Process and verify overtime meal and transportation reimbursements and bill clients accordingly
- Handle PTO deductions, special pay adjustments, and leave integration calculations
- Manage approvals for variable hour employee hours and maintain vacation/time off records
- Oversee garnishment order processing and coordinate with third-party vendors
- Ensure timely and accurate direct deposit transmissions, resolving related issues
- Provide employment verifications and support audits for government agencies and lenders
- Include all non-cash fringe benefits in payroll income and prepare related journal entries
- Coordinate with UK payroll teams on tax deductions for secondees
- Prepare manual journal entries for payroll-related payments and adjustments
- Review and approve quarterly payroll tax filings, reconciliations, audits, and year-end activities
- Participate in testing payroll-related system changes
- Support Asia payroll review and respond to related inquiries
- Supervise and mentor direct reports, managing compliance and staffing
- Participate in hiring, appraisals, and other employee lifecycle events
- Perform additional duties as assigned
4. Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of progressive multi-state payroll experience
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, iManage, and enterprise HRIS/Payroll platforms (e.g., Ascentis, Workday, ADP Workforce Now, UKG Pro)
- Extensive knowledge of wage and hour laws, and federal, state, and local tax compliance
- Ability to work extended hours and travel as needed
- Strong spreadsheet and database skills
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Certified Payroll Professional or equivalent certification
- Experience in Am Law 50 law firm payroll
- Supervisory experience
