The Role
We're looking for an experienced Communications Technician to provide advanced technical and professional support to a Defence high-frequency communications capability in Canberra. Operating under broad direction, you'll exercise real initiative and autonomy to execute complex technical and maintenance activities, supporting both sustainment outcomes and capability enhancement.
You'll provide detailed technical and maintenance advice to engineering and logistics leadership, working closely with internal Defence stakeholders and external industry partners to keep a critical communications capability running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

- Execute complex communications technical and maintenance assurance activities in line with agreed priorities and milestones

- Exercise assigned technical authorities and ensure compliance with technical regulatory requirements

- Develop, review and assess technical packages, reports and product performance against requirements

- Apply technical knowledge to identify risks and uncertainties, implementing corrective actions and supporting continuous improvement

- Provide detailed technical and maintenance advice to engineering and logistics leadership, contributing to planning and sustainment outcomes

- Build and sustain positive relationships with internal Defence stakeholders, industry partners and suppliers

- Support workforce development through mentoring, technical guidance and knowledge management

- Ensure safety aspects of Defence capability are considered and incorporated into technical activities

- Manage technical knowledge of relevant processes, packages, products and equipment

Required

- Current NV1 security clearance

- Relevant higher education or vocational qualifications in communications engineering, or equivalent industry experience

- Demonstrated ability to communicate fluently, both orally and in writing, presenting complex information to diverse audiences

- Strong problem-solving, risk management and stakeholder engagement skills

- Experience in Defence sustainment and technical assurance activities

- ASDEFCON suite experience

Salary
$151,740 - $156,740 (incl. Super), pro rata for the duration of this engagement
