The Role
We're looking for a motivated and organised Commercial Officer to join a Defence land communications program in Canberra. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you'll provide subject matter commercial support to multiple project managers and the Project Director, working collaboratively within a busy commercial team.
This role suits someone who thrives on managing competing priorities in a complex, fast-moving environment — supporting contract management and procurement activities across several concurrent project streams rather than a single, static workload. You'll bring hands-on ASDEFCON experience and the commercial judgement to support everything from routine contract administration through to complex procurement activities, including solicitation documentation and market response evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the management and administration of project contracts and commercial activities
- Assist in developing and maintaining contract management plans and associated documentation
- Monitor contractor performance against contractual obligations, KPIs and other performance measures
- Support performance and compliance reviews, including Contract Status Reviews, and reviews of KPIs, Operational Performance Measures (OPM) and Key Health Indicators (KHI)
- Support supplier self-assessments of service delivery, and Australian Industry Capability (AIC) and Indigenous Procurement Policy (IPP) reporting
- Assist in preparing and processing contract amendments, variations and change proposals
- Prepare routine procurement and contracting documentation using ASDEFCON templates
- Support complex procurement activities, including development of solicitation documentation (statements of work, statements of requirement, data item descriptions) and evaluation of industry responses to approaches to market
- Identify and escalate contract risks, issues and compliance concerns
Required
- Current NV1 security clearance
- Relevant qualifications in Contract Management and/or Procurement or a related field
- More than 5 years' experience in Commercial Management or Contract Management
- Experience applying commercial, procurement or contract management principles within Defence
- Experience using the ASDEFCON suite
- Comprehensive understanding of Australian Government procurement processes and procedures
- Experience supporting complex procurement activities, including solicitation documentation development and evaluation of market responses
- Experience developing contracting correspondence, including complex and commercially sensitive reports, submissions and contract change proposals
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including advanced technical writing, with proven commercial and business acumen in complex, multi-stakeholder environments
Salary
$94,390 - $99,390 (incl. Super), pro rata for the duration of this engagement
