About the Opportunity:
The Data Scientist, Level 1 supports data analysis and program evaluation initiatives by assisting senior and journeyman analysts with data preparation, statistical analysis, modeling, and reporting. This role helps identify and organize relevant datasets, develop analytical models under supervision, and communicate findings through visualizations and reports. The position contributes to informed decision-making, technical assistance, and alignment with federal program objectives.
Responsibilities:
• Assist senior and journeyman analysts with statistical analysis, data collection, organization, and interpretation.
• Identify relevant datasets to support technical assistance and program evaluation activities.
• Collect, clean, categorize, and prepare data for analysis, modeling, and reporting.
• Support the development, testing, and refinement of algorithms and analytical models under supervision.
• Create basic data visualizations to communicate trends, patterns, and findings.
• Perform quality assurance checks to validate data accuracy and ensure reliable analytical outputs.
• Prepare summaries, reports, presentations, slide decks, and visual dashboards for senior-level review.
• Document analytical processes, findings, and results as required.
• Ensure analytical activities align with applicable DOE/CMEI guidance and federal program objectives.
• Support senior analysts with ad hoc data analysis and reporting tasks.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Up to 3 years of relevant experience in data analysis, modeling, statistics, or data science.
• Foundational knowledge of statistics, data analysis, or data science through academic coursework, internships, or professional experience.
• Experience with or willingness to learn Python, R, SQL, and data visualization tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain analytical findings clearly.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Willingness and ability to learn DOE systems and Salesforce.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required federal security clearance, potentially up to Top Secret/DOE Q level.

Pay Range and Compensation Package:
