About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Applied Machine Learning Engineer to join our Security Engineering & Architecture team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of developing advanced machine learning techniques to identify, understand, and exploit vulnerabilities across Apple’s extensive product ecosystem. Your work will involve integrating ML models such as large language models and generative modeling into security analysis workflows, enabling more effective detection of subtle security weaknesses. You will collaborate closely with security research teams to design, develop, and deploy scalable, innovative solutions that enhance our ability to protect Apple’s users and infrastructure. This position offers a rare opportunity to gain comprehensive insight into the full security stack, from custom silicon to user applications, and to contribute to safeguarding products used by over a billion people worldwide.
Qualifications
- Expertise in machine learning, particularly large language models and generative modeling
- Strong enthusiasm and/or experience in security, especially offensive security
- Proficiency in software engineering languages such as C, C++, Python, Swift, Objective-C, or Rust
- Excellent collaborative, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields
Responsibilities
- Design and develop ML-enhanced security systems that complement existing analysis methods like fuzzing, static & dynamic analysis, and manual inspection
- Leverage large datasets and expert behaviors to create scalable approaches for navigating complex codebases and attack surfaces
- Collaborate with security researchers to validate, challenge, and refine ML models during real-world security evaluations
- Integrate ML techniques into security workflows to identify subtle vulnerabilities and weaknesses
- Stay current with advancements in ML, security research, and analysis techniques to continuously improve security solutions
- Contribute to cross-disciplinary teams to develop innovative tools and methodologies for security analysis
