KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the transport department.
- Monitor fleet performance, vehicle utilisation and operational efficiency.
- Coordinate drivers, routes, schedules and transport requirements.
- Monitor vehicle movements using fleet tracking and telematics systems.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, safety standards and transport regulations.
- Assist with route planning and ensure efficient turnaround times.
- Monitor breakdowns, delays and operational challenges and ensure these are attended to promptly.
- Work closely with the workshop, drivers and management to minimise downtime.
- Manage and motivate staff within the department.
- Compile and maintain accurate operational reports and records.
- Identify operational challenges and implement effective solutions.
- Ensure excellent communication between drivers, management, clients and relevant departments.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12 (Matric) qualification.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Fleet Controller, Transport Supervisor or similar role within the transport/logistics industry.
- Computer proficient with experience using fleet tracking systems.
- Strong knowledge of transport operations and route planning.
- Familiarity with telematics systems (e.g. Mix Telematics or similar).
- Strong leadership, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to manage and coordinate multiple vehicles and drivers effectively.
- Willing to work extended hours, evenings and weekends when required.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Previous experience in tipper, bulk transport or side tipper operations will be an advantage.
