Summary:
You will be responsible for the electrical design, engineering, and technical optimization of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, ranging from commercial & industrial (C&I) to utility-scale projects. You will act as the technical anchor—bridging the gap between initial concept, detailed engineering design, and final site commissioning.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- System Design & Engineering: Develop comprehensive electrical single-line diagrams (SLDs), three-line diagrams, schematic drawings, and equipment layouts for solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Technical Calculations: Perform critical electrical engineering calculations, including string sizing, voltage drop, cable sizing, short-circuit analysis, and arc flash assessments.
- Simulation & Modeling: Utilize industry-standard software (such as PVsyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD, and ETAP) to model system performance, predict annual energy yield, and optimize system architecture.
- Interconnection & Compliance: Manage the electrical interconnection process with local utilities. Ensure all designs strictly comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC), local building codes, utility standards, and safety regulations.
- Equipment Selection: Author technical specifications for major electrical components, including PV modules, inverters, transformers, switchgear, and monitoring/SCADA systems. Evaluate vendor bids for technical compliance.
- Field Support & Commissioning: Provide engineering support during construction. Review Submittals and RFIs (Requests for Information), perform occasional site visits, and assist in the testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical systems.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an accredited institution.
- Experience: 1–3 years of direct experience in solar PV electrical design (C&I or utility-scale preferred).
- Software Proficiency: Highly proficient in AutoCAD, PVsyst, and electrical modeling software (e.g., ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower).
- Codes & Standards: Deep understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC / NFPA 70), IEEE standards, and UL certifications relevant to solar and storage.
- Familiarity of BOM & BOQ
- Must have Driver License
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent technical writing skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional project teams (civil engineers, project managers, and installers).
