Job Description:The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting operations of multiple affiliated companies, including Yanez Construction, Reedley Lumber, and related entities. This position assists with general ledger accounting, inventory accounting, account reconciliations, month-end close activities, and financial reporting.
The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting foundation, attention to detail, and experience working with inventory, retail, construction, property management, or multi-entity accounting environments. This role offers exposure to a diverse group of businesses, including construction, retail, equipment, real estate, and development operations.
Key Responsibilities:
General Accounting
- Prepare journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger records for multiple entities.
- Perform monthly account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Prepare supporting schedules for financial statements.
- Assist with annual financial reviews, audits, and tax preparation requests.
- Ensure transactions are properly recorded in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Maintain intercompany accounting schedules and reconciliations.
Inventory & Retail Accounting
- Support inventory accounting and reconciliations for Reedley Lumber and related operations.
- Monitor inventory adjustments, write-offs, shrinkage activity, and inventory variances.
- Reconcile inventory subledgers to the general ledger.
- Assist with physical inventory counts and cycle count programs.
- Review purchasing and receiving transactions for accuracy and proper accounting treatment.
- Analyze inventory performance, turnover, and margin trends.
Construction & Multi-Entity Accounting
- Assist with job cost tracking and project-related accounting activities.
- Support work-in-progress (WIP) reporting and account reconciliations.
- Prepare and maintain schedules for fixed assets, debt, prepaid expenses, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Assist with intercompany transactions and consolidating financial information across multiple entities.
- Support property management and real estate accounting activities as assigned.
Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable & Cash Management
- Assist with customer collections and account reviews.
- Review customer aging reports and support collection efforts.
- Review vendor invoices and ensure proper coding and approvals.
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Assist with cash reporting and cash management activities.
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
- Follow established accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Assist with documenting accounting procedures and workflows.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and operational efficiency.
- Support implementation of accounting system enhancements and reporting improvements.
Qualifications:
- Understanding of basic accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Ability to analyze and reconcile financial information accurately.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Experience:
- 2-5 years of accounting experience preferred.
- Experience with inventory accounting strongly preferred.
- Experience in construction, retail, distribution, building materials, property management, or multi-entity accounting environments preferred.
- Experience with QuickBooks, Buildium, Epicor Eagle, or similar ERP/accounting systems preferred.
- Strong Excel skills including lookups, pivots, and data analysis preferred.

Pay: $28.00 - $32.00 per hour
