Location: Los Angeles / Inland Empire Area – On-Site
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Executive Leadership
Industry: Final-Mile Delivery, Transportation and Warehousing

Position Summary

We are seeking an exceptional Terminal Manager to take ownership of our LAX-area terminal and build it into a disciplined, efficient and high-performing operation.

This is a highly visible leadership role with a defined opportunity to advance into Director of Operations based on demonstrated performance, leadership ability and successful execution. The right candidate will not simply maintain the terminal—they will strengthen it, establish accountability and create an operating model that can be replicated across additional markets.

The Terminal Manager will lead all day-to-day warehouse and delivery operations, including inbound freight, sortation, outbound staging, final-mile execution, labor management, independent-contractor driver performance, customer service, safety and operating costs.

We need a decisive, hands-on leader who can quickly assess an operation, identify what is not working and implement sustainable improvements.

Primary Responsibilities

Terminal Leadership

- Assume full ownership of the terminal’s daily performance.

- Establish clear roles, operating procedures and accountability throughout the operation.

- Lead warehouse employees, supervisors, administrative personnel and independent-contractor delivery partners.

- Maintain a visible, hands-on leadership presence throughout the terminal.

- Build a culture centered on urgency, accuracy, safety, teamwork and measurable performance.

- Address performance and conduct issues promptly and professionally.

- Develop supervisors and other high-potential employees into stronger operational leaders.

Warehouse Operations

- Direct inbound unloading, receiving, integrity scanning, sortation, staging and outbound loading.

- Align staffing levels and shift schedules with actual inbound and outbound volume.

- Ensure freight moves through the terminal accurately, safely and on schedule.

- Reduce bottlenecks, rehandling, misplaced freight and avoidable labor hours.

- Implement standardized workflows and ensure consistent execution across shifts.

- Maintain an organized, secure and customer-ready facility.

- Identify opportunities to improve equipment utilization, dock flow and warehouse layout.

Final-Mile Delivery Operations

- Ensure routes are prepared, assigned and dispatched on time.

- Monitor route progress, delivery performance, exceptions and recovery actions.

- Maintain adequate independent-contractor driver capacity for regular operations, peak periods and callouts.

- Partner with centralized routing and driver-network teams to improve route coverage and cost efficiency.

- Escalate service failures quickly and lead corrective action.

- Ensure required PODs, BOLs, delivery photographs and other supporting documentation are captured accurately and promptly.

Labor and Cost Management

- Create labor plans based on scheduled freight, route volume and operational requirements.

- Control overtime and eliminate unnecessary or duplicative staffing.

- Monitor productivity by employee, shift, function and volume.

- Manage the terminal within established labor, delivery and operating-cost targets.

- Review operating results and explain material performance variances.

- Recommend staffing, scheduling and workflow changes supported by data.

Customer and Service Management

- Protect service quality for major retail and logistics customers.

- Respond quickly and professionally to customer concerns and operating exceptions.

- Ensure appointments, service requirements and client-specific procedures are followed.

- Partner with customer service, billing, claims, finance and executive leadership.

- Develop corrective-action plans for recurring service failures.

- Maintain strong relationships with customers, delivery partners and internal stakeholders.

Safety and Compliance

- Enforce workplace-safety requirements and company policies.

- Maintain a clean, secure and compliant terminal.

- Conduct regular safety meetings and correct unsafe practices immediately.

- Ensure incidents, injuries, freight damage and claims are documented and escalated properly.

- Support compliance requirements related to transportation, independent contractors and warehouse operations.

Performance Expectations

The successful Terminal Manager will be expected to:

- Establish control, consistency and accountability within the first 30 days.

- Improve labor scheduling and reduce avoidable overtime.

- Increase on-time dispatch and delivery performance.

- Improve warehouse productivity and freight accuracy.

- Reduce preventable service failures, claims and missing documentation.

- Strengthen driver availability and route coverage.

- Develop a capable supervisory team.

- Create scalable operating procedures suitable for additional terminals.

- Produce measurable financial and operational improvements.

Qualifications

- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible transportation, terminal, distribution or warehouse-management experience.

- Demonstrated success leading a fast-moving, high-volume operation.

- Experience managing both warehouse functions and delivery operations strongly preferred.

- Strong knowledge of labor planning, productivity measurement and cost control.

- Experience leading supervisors, hourly employees and delivery partners.

- Ability to interpret operational data and convert it into decisive action.

- Strong employee-relations, coaching and performance-management skills.

- Excellent organizational, communication and problem-solving abilities.

- Comfortable working directly on the warehouse floor and responding to operating issues in real time.

- Proficiency with transportation-management, dispatch, warehouse or workforce-management systems.

- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent operational leadership experience will be considered.

- Communicates problems early and arrives with solutions.

- Earns the confidence of employees, customers and executive leadership.

Advancement Opportunity

This position is intended to serve as a potential pathway to Director of Operations.
