We are looking for a Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer to support the reliability, performance, and security of the organisation’s IT infrastructure.
You will take responsibility for infrastructure support, system administration, technical troubleshooting, and planned improvements. The role involves working across servers, networks, cloud services, endpoints, and business systems, while providing technical support to colleagues and working with external suppliers where required.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and support Windows Server environments, virtual machines, and core infrastructure services.
- Administer Microsoft 365, Active Directory, user accounts, groups, and permissions.
- Support network services including LAN, WAN, VPN, DNS, DHCP, and wireless connectivity.
- Monitor infrastructure performance, availability, and capacity.
- Investigate and resolve escalated hardware, software, server, and network incidents.
- Manage system updates, security patches, and routine maintenance.
- Support backup systems and carry out regular recovery checks.
- Assist with cloud infrastructure and services, including Microsoft Azure where required.
- Maintain accurate infrastructure documentation, configurations, and support procedures.
- Work with third-party providers and suppliers to resolve technical issues.
- Support infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and technology projects.
- Review changes before implementation and help ensure they are completed safely.
- Assist with security controls, access reviews, and infrastructure-related compliance requirements.
- Provide technical guidance to service desk and IT support colleagues.
- Identify recurring infrastructure issues and recommend practical improvements.
Experience and Skills
- Several years of experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, network engineering, or a similar role.
- Strong experience with Windows Server and Microsoft 365.
- Good knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and user administration.
- Practical understanding of LAN, WAN, VPN, TCP/IP, and network troubleshooting.
- Experience with virtualisation platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V is desirable.
- Experience supporting cloud services, particularly Microsoft Azure, is beneficial.
- Familiarity with backup, monitoring, patch management, and endpoint management tools.
- Good understanding of IT security and data protection practices.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage technical priorities with limited supervision.
- Good communication skills when working with technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Experience using service desk or IT service management systems.
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, or ITIL are advantageous but not essential.
- Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
Working Pattern
Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Occasional out-of-hours support may be required for planned maintenance, infrastructure changes, or critical incidents.
