Wave Dynamics is a leading environmental and acoustic consultancy operating across Ireland and the UK. We provide specialist technical services in environmental planning, design support, assessment and compliance across a range of sectors including residential, commercial, infrastructure, energy, healthcare and industrial developments.

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Consultant to deliver technically robust environmental assessments, with a particular focus on modelling-led work. The preferred candidate will have demonstrable skills and project experience in one or more of the following specialist areas: air quality modelling and assessment; daylight, sunlight and overshadowing modelling and assessment; artificial lighting and light spillage modelling and assessment; and/or microclimate assessment, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling and pedestrian wind comfort analysis. Experience across more than one of these areas would be particularly advantageous.

The role will involve managing defined workstreams, undertaking and reviewing modelling, preparing high-quality technical reports and liaising with clients and design teams. The Environmental Consultant will support the delivery of environmental consultancy services working closely with senior technical leads and the wider Noise & Environmental team with a focus on air quality, climate, waste, lighting, daylight & sunlight, odour and noise and vibration assessments,

General Duties
General duties and key responsibilities may include the following:

· Contribute to environmental consultancy projects from scoping and data review through to modelling, assessment and reporting.

· Undertake air quality assessments for planning and environmental compliance projects, including baseline review, construction dust assessment, traffic-related assessment and atmospheric dispersion modelling, where relevant.

· Develop, run, check and interpret air quality dispersion models using appropriate industry-standard software and clearly document model inputs, assumptions, verification and uncertainty.

· Prepare daylight, sunlight and overshadowing assessments in accordance with current BRE guidance and relevant planning requirements.

· Build and review three-dimensional daylight and sunlight models, interpret results and advise design teams on potential improvements or mitigation.

· Assess artificial lighting proposals, including light spill, obtrusive light and potential effects on sensitive receptors, using appropriate lighting calculations or modelling software.

· Review lighting layouts and photometric information, identify potential constraints and recommend proportionate design or mitigation measures.

· Prepare and review microclimate and pedestrian wind comfort assessments for development projects.

· Develop, run and interpret CFD and other microclimate models using appropriate industry-standard software and prepare technical assessment reports.

· Review microclimate modelling outputs and advise design teams on mitigation measures and opportunities to improve environmental performance.

· Prepare clear, accurate and defensible technical reports, planning submissions, technical notes and responses to requests for further information.

· Undertake technical checking and quality assurance of calculations, model inputs, outputs, figures and reports, appropriate to experience.

· Coordinate with clients, architects, engineers, planners and other environmental specialists, and attend project or design team meetings as required.

· Plan and undertake site visits, surveys and monitoring where needed, in accordance with health and safety and company procedures.

· Contribute to fee proposals, project programmes, client communication, business development and the continuing improvement of technical methods and templates.

· Provide technical support or mentoring to less-experienced colleagues, appropriate to grade and experience.

· Undertake or support environmental noise and vibration surveys, modelling and assessment where this forms part of a multidisciplinary project.

Other Duties
· Support the preparation of safety documentation for site activities.

· Assist with maintaining and updating acoustic data libraries and project records.

· Provide support for business development and marketing activities where appropriate.

· Assist with administrative and project coordination tasks.

· Liaise with internal administrative and accounts staff as required.

· Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

· Assist with validating model outputs against baseline data and supporting quality assurance procedures for environmental assessments.

· Undertake other duties appropriate to a consultant level role.

Skills and Qualifications
· A relevant degree or postgraduate qualification in environmental science, environmental engineering, physics, building performance, lighting, planning or other related discipline.

· Relevant professional consultancy experience, with the ability to take responsibility for defined technical tasks and deliverables with limited supervision.

· Demonstrable modelling and assessment experience in at least one priority area: air quality; daylight, sunlight and overshadowing; artificial lighting and light spillage; or microclimate and CFD modelling.

· Practical experience using relevant industry-standard modelling or calculation software. Experience with air dispersion modelling (e.g. ADMS), daylight and sunlight modelling (e.g. Waldram Tools), lighting design software (e.g. DIALux), microclimate/CFD modelling software, and GIS packages would be advantageous.

· A sound understanding of the guidance, standards and planning context applicable to the candidate’s specialist area or areas.

· Strong analytical skills and the ability to check, interpret and explain complex modelling results.

· Excellent technical writing, attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, regulator-ready work.

· Effective project organisation, communication and client liaison skills.

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary project teams.

· Membership of a relevant professional body, or progress towards professional accreditation is desirable.

· Experience of environmental noise assessment, climate assessment, odour assessment or waste and resource management would be advantageous but is not essential.

· A full driving licence and willingness to travel for site work, where required.
