# Staff DevOps Engineer
## About the Role
Newmark is seeking a **Staff DevOps Engineer** to drive the architecture, reliability, and evolution of cloud-native platforms across the organization. This role spans infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, security automation, and emerging **agentic AI-driven operations**.
You will provide technical direction across multiple teams while remaining hands-on, designing resilient infrastructure, improving engineering velocity, and mentoring experienced engineers.
## Key Responsibilities
* Own technical architecture for complex, cross-team infrastructure initiatives across cloud platforms, CI/CD, and observability.
* Design, build, and maintain scalable, resilient cloud-native infrastructure and deployment pipelines.
* Support infrastructure for Line of Business Applications, AI Platforms, and core enterprise systems.
* Architect and integrate agentic AI workflows, autonomous agents, LLM-driven automation, and AI copilots into DevOps and platform operations.
* Develop AI-assisted capabilities for incident triage, infrastructure self-healing, change review, and operational efficiency.
* Establish engineering standards and best practices for infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, security, observability, and responsible AI-assisted operations.
* Lead technical design reviews and provide architectural guidance to engineering and platform teams.
* Partner with product, security, and engineering leadership to translate business strategy into scalable infrastructure roadmaps.
* Identify and resolve systemic performance, reliability, and scalability issues.
* Own incident response and disaster recovery strategies for platforms within scope.
* Lead blameless postmortems and drive durable, systemic improvements.
* Mentor and coach senior and mid-level engineers.
* Drive adoption of modern infrastructure technologies and practices.
* Monitor emerging technologies, particularly AI-driven infrastructure automation, and evaluate their business applicability.
## Required Qualifications
* **12+ years of experience** in infrastructure and/or software engineering.
* Demonstrated experience architecting cloud infrastructure and CI/CD systems at scale.
* Expert-level proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools such as **Terraform, Bicep, or similar**.
* Strong experience with CI/CD platforms such as **GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins**.
* Deep understanding of distributed systems, containerization, and **Kubernetes** at scale.
* Strong experience with **Azure, AWS, or GCP** and cloud-native architecture patterns.
* Proven ability to lead large-scale technical initiatives across multiple teams.
* Strong background in observability and monitoring, including metrics, logging, tracing, and incident response.
* Deep understanding of security and compliance practices, including identity, Zero Trust, Entra ID/Azure AD, secrets management, and audit/change controls.
* Experience working in a regulated or public-company environment, including SOX or similar controls.
* Ability to mentor engineers and influence technical direction without direct reporting authority.
## Preferred Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or a related field.
* Experience designing multi-agent systems, tool-calling architectures, or RAG pipelines for infrastructure or operational use cases.
* Hands-on experience building or integrating agentic AI systems, LLM-powered operations tooling, or AI agent orchestration frameworks such as:
* LangChain
* AutoGen
* Semantic Kernel
* MCP
* Technical thought leadership demonstrated through speaking, writing, or open-source contributions, particularly in applied AI and infrastructure automation.
* Experience with event-driven architectures and real-time data processing, including Kafka, Event Hubs, or Kinesis.
* Familiarity with data platforms such as Databricks.
* Experience in commercial real estate, fintech, or operations/transaction systems.

## Work Arrangement & Schedule

## Compensation & Benefits
* **Base salary:** $175,000–$200,000 annually.
