# Senior Embedded Software Engineer (Minimum $10k Sign-On Bonus)
## About the Role
L3Harris Technologies is seeking an experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer to support the development of mission-critical national security systems at its Camden Waterfront Campus in Camden, New Jersey.
The role focuses on low-level embedded software development, modern computer architecture, hardware bring-up and debugging, device drivers, board support packages (BSPs), bootloaders, and embedded Linux systems. The engineer will collaborate across disciplines throughout the full software development lifecycle.
## Key Responsibilities
* Develop device drivers and board support packages for custom embedded systems.
* Diagnose and debug complex hardware-software boundary issues.
* Develop software for testing manufactured circuit boards and diagnosing manufacturing or design issues.
* Participate in peer reviews and identify, track, and resolve software defects.
* Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop and evaluate hardware/software interfaces and overall system performance.
* Support all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, hardware-software integration, and formal testing.
* Investigate root causes of complex technical issues and implement solutions independently or as part of multidisciplinary teams.
* Develop software test plans, test procedures, and technical documentation.
## Required Qualifications
* U.S. citizenship.
* Active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
* 8+ years of software development experience.
* 5+ years of experience developing and debugging drivers, BSPs, bootloaders, bare-metal applications, or other low-level embedded software.
* Experience developing embedded systems using C, C++, assembly, and/or Rust.
* Experience developing embedded Linux systems.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
## Preferred Qualifications
* Experience developing device drivers and BSPs for modern RTOS environments such as Integrity, VxWorks, Zephyr, seL4, or Yocto.
* Experience with hardware bring-up on prototype or first-run hardware.
* Deep understanding of modern SoC architectures, boot processes, and security/safety capabilities.
* Experience interfacing with hardware peripherals and custom logic in FPGA fabric.
* Experience building and customizing Yocto/OE or Buildroot-based Linux distributions.
* Strong knowledge of BitBake, device trees, and the Linux kernel.
* Experience with bare-metal and kernel-space software development.
* Strong understanding of UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, AXI, PCI, and PCIe protocols.
* Experience developing safety- or security-critical systems, including DO-178 and ASIL-D.
* Experience with Xilinx, Microchip, and other SoCs with programmable fabric.
* Experience with bare-metal Rust development.

* **Low-Level Embedded Experience:** 5+ years developing and debugging drivers, BSPs, bootloaders, bare-metal applications, or other low-level embedded systems.
* Embedded Linux development experience required.
## Work Arrangement & Schedule
* **Work Arrangement:** Onsite.
* **Location:** Camden, NJ, US.
* **Schedule:** 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off.
* Relocation packages are available for qualified candidates.
## Compensation & Benefits
* **Salary:** USD $119,000–$171,500.
* **Sign-On Bonus:** Minimum $10,000 for qualified candidates; candidates with additional credentials may be eligible for higher sign-on bonuses.
