# REMOTE SOFTWARE ENGINEER
## About the Role
Origin is hiring **Software Engineers** to build across the full technology stack of its endpoint AI observability platform, including the agent that collects data, services that process and interpret it, infrastructure, and customer-facing interfaces. This is an AI-native engineering role where engineers own design and implementation from idea through release and work wherever the highest-impact problems are.
The role combines high-performance data ingestion, inference pipelines, distributed systems, APIs, infrastructure, and frontend development. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong technical judgment, high agency, product focus, and the ability to use AI coding tools effectively while maintaining high standards for quality, testing, and production reliability.
## Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement software from initial idea through production release.
- Build across the technology stack, including agent software, backend services, infrastructure, and frontend applications.
- Build and operate distributed systems using **AWS, EKS, ClickHouse, and Kafka** against real production SLAs.
- Develop high-performance data ingestion and processing systems.
- Work on inference pipelines and AI-related systems.
- Define and implement storage schemas, API contracts, and scalable patterns for multi-tenant environments.
- Build internal agents that automate repeatable engineering tasks and distribute them across the team.
- Help define AI-native engineering practices, including the context, permissions, and tooling required for engineering agents.
- Work with research and systems-internals engineers to turn their work into reliable production software.
- Identify important customer problems and prioritize shipping for velocity and impact.
- Work directly with the product and use the platform to identify workflow improvements that can be delivered to customers.
- Contribute to customer-facing functionality through the React frontend.
- Make technical decisions that support scalability, performance, reliability, and production requirements.
## Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience building **data-intensive systems at scale**, including high-throughput event processing and distributed coordination.
- Deep understanding of **distributed systems** principles, including streaming, batching, backpressure, recovery, and consistency models.
- Strong working fluency in **Python** across services, inference pipelines, and tooling.
- Production experience with cloud infrastructure, with **AWS preferred**.
- Production experience with **Kubernetes**, including EKS or equivalent.
- Production experience with event streaming technologies such as **Kafka or equivalent**.
- Modern systems programming experience; **Rust is preferred**, with problem-solving ability valued over expertise in a specific programming language.
- Experience working with **React** frontend applications.
- Proficient use of AI-native coding tools such as **Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode**.
- Ability to evaluate AI-generated code, recognize when an agent is going off track, and redirect it effectively.
- High agency and a demonstrated ability to identify important work and complete it.
## Preferred Qualifications
- Background in real-time monitoring or observability infrastructure, including environments such as Palantir, Datadog, Honeycomb, Chronosphere, or data-focused infrastructure at Stripe or Cloudflare.
- Background in high-throughput systems, including high-frequency trading, real-time telemetry, or low-latency distributed systems.
- Background in AI infrastructure or applied machine learning, particularly inference pipelines, embedding and topic systems, or agent orchestration.
- Prior founding-engineer or early-stage startup experience.
- Open-source contributions or published research involving AI tooling, agent frameworks, or developer infrastructure.
- Data engineering experience with columnar databases or OLAP/time-series systems.
- Deep operating-system internals knowledge, including Windows ETW, Apple ESF, or eBPF.
- Cross-platform systems expertise across Windows and macOS.
