Senior Full Stack .NET Developer – 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract

My client, based in Johannesburg, is seeking an experienced Senior Full Stack .NET Developer to join their engineering team on a 12-month fixed-term contract.
This is a senior hands-on development role for someone with strong C# and .NET expertise who can design, build and support scalable, business-critical applications while also contributing to technical direction and the development of other engineers within the team.
The successful candidate will be expected to remain technically hands-on while providing mentoring, knowledge sharing and technical guidance to junior and mid-level developers.
Please note: This position is onsite 5 days per week in Rosebank, Johannesburg.
Key Responsibilities
Software Development
- Design, develop and maintain scalable applications and services using C# and .NET.
- Build and enhance RESTful APIs, integrations and distributed system components.
- Develop secure, reliable and maintainable solutions aligned with business requirements.
- Contribute to application architecture, solution design and technical decision-making.
- Ensure applications meet performance, scalability, security and operational requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex application and production issues.
Full Stack Development
- Contribute across both backend and front-end application development.
- Work closely with UI, product and engineering teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
- Develop and integrate front-end functionality with backend services and APIs.
- Ensure consistency, performance and maintainability across the application stack.
Cloud, Integration & Data
- Develop and support cloud-hosted applications and services.
- Work with messaging, caching, storage and configuration technologies to build resilient systems.
- Design and optimise relational database solutions and data-access patterns.
- Develop integrations with internal and external systems and services.
- Support deployment automation, monitoring and optimisation of production applications.
- Work with platform and infrastructure teams to improve system reliability and efficiency.
Engineering Excellence
- Champion engineering best practices across testing, code reviews, documentation and maintainable development.
- Identify and address technical debt through continuous improvement.
- Contribute to coding standards, architectural guidelines and engineering processes.
- Support CI/CD and modern software delivery practices.
- Participate in technical reviews and ensure high standards of code quality.
Leadership & Mentoring
- Mentor and support junior and mid-level developers, helping them strengthen their technical capabilities and development practices.
- Provide technical guidance during solution design, development, troubleshooting and code reviews.
- Share knowledge and encourage engineering best practices across the wider development team.
- Support other team members in solving complex technical problems.
- Contribute to a collaborative environment where developers can learn from one another.
- Lead by example through strong technical standards, ownership and accountability.
Collaboration
- Work within cross-functional Agile teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.
- Participate in planning, estimation, refinement and technical review activities.
- Work with business and technical stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into effective solutions.

Essential Experience
- 7+ years' commercial software development experience, with strong hands-on C# and .NET expertise.
- Strong experience building and supporting production-grade applications.
- Full-stack development experience across backend and front-end technologies.
- Strong experience with ASP.NET Core and RESTful APIs.
- Experience with distributed systems and service-based architectures.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases and data-access technologies.
- Experience developing applications within Azure, AWS or GCP environments.
- Experience with automated testing, Git and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting and problem-solving capability.
- Experience working within Agile development environments.
- Experience providing technical guidance, mentoring or coaching to other developers.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
