The Role
- Own and evolve the research and intelligence direction for core AI systems, including context representation, memory, reasoning, planning, and orchestration.
- Strategically decide between designing new model architectures or leveraging cutting-edge open-source and commercial models.
- Define robust evaluation frameworks that measure real-world usefulness, robustness, safety, and long-term behavior, moving beyond vanity metrics.
- Champion alignment, safety, and guardrail strategies as primary product concerns.
- Guide exploration into frontier techniques such as retrieval-augmented training, mixture-of-experts, distillation, multi-agent orchestration, and multimodal systems.
- Collaborate closely with product and application engineering to shape early product intelligence direction.
- Set and uphold the technical bar for research rigor, judgment, and taste throughout the organization.
What You'll Need
- Deep experience in building or evolving production-ready Machine Learning (ML) systems.
- Proven expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) is essential.
- Strong technical judgment regarding model behavior, failure modes, and long-horizon trade-offs.
- A builder's mindset, focused on creating systems that deliver real-world impact.
- Comfort in making irreversible or high-impact decisions with incomplete information.
- An obsession with evaluation, correctness, and how systems evolve over time.
- High ownership mentality, operating with the drive of a founder.
- Experience with GPU-based training and inference systems, JAX, Python, and PyTorch.
