About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Web & Video Player Engineer to join our dynamic team remotely. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of JavaScript and web video playback technologies. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing scalable streaming experiences across various web and Connected TV platforms such as Chromecast, Xbox, Samsung Tizen, LG, Vizio, and Comcast boxes. You will own the end-to-end delivery of high-quality video playback features, troubleshoot playback issues, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product managers and other engineering specialists. Your expertise will directly impact the quality and reliability of streaming services used by millions of users worldwide, ensuring seamless viewing experiences across devices and platforms.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess over seven years of professional experience in web development with a specialized focus on web video playback. Proven expertise in building and maintaining video players and live streaming components for web and Connected TV environments is essential. Candidates should have hands-on experience working with streaming frameworks such as Bitmovin, JW Player, HLS.js, or Shaka, including tuning and troubleshooting playback behavior for live streams. Strong debugging skills to optimize playback performance, reduce rebuffering, and enhance startup times are critical. Familiarity with streaming protocols, live playback concepts such as latency, live edge, drift, adaptive bitrate (ABR) algorithms, and digital rights management (DRM) integration is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills in English and the ability to work independently within a fast-paced, remote setting are also required.
Responsibilities
- Design, architect, and implement robust video player features compatible with web and Connected TV platforms, ensuring high performance and scalability.
- Build and optimize video player components utilizing frameworks such as Bitmovin, JW Player, HLS.js, or Shaka, including tuning for live streaming scenarios.
- Troubleshoot and resolve playback issues related to rebuffering, latency, startup delays, and live streaming challenges to ensure a smooth user experience.
- Analyze player performance metrics and quality of experience (QoE) data to identify issues and implement improvements.
- Contribute to multi-device playback solutions, including React Native implementations for Connected TV and other platforms.
- Develop and maintain automated tests, including unit and end-to-end testing, to ensure playback reliability.
- Consume RESTful APIs for integrating backend services and enhancing playback features.
- Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams using agile methodologies to deliver features on time and meet quality standards.
- Provide comprehensive technical documentation and specifications for playback features to facilitate future development and troubleshooting.
