Accounting Manager

Are you an experienced construction accounting professional who enjoys being the person a company can truly rely on to run the accounting function?
A long-established, highly respected Long Island construction organization is looking for a hands-on Accounting Manager to take ownership of its day-to-day accounting and financial operations. This is a highly visible role working directly with the CEO, with the autonomy to manage your responsibilities, improve processes and become a trusted, integral part of the business.
This is not a people-management position. There is no team to supervise and prior management experience is not required. The title reflects the level of ownership you’ll have over the accounting function. It’s an excellent opportunity for a strong Senior Accountant, Full-Charge Bookkeeper, Accounting Manager or similar professional who is ready to be the go-to accounting person for an established company.

What You’ll Own
- Manage the day-to-day accounting function, including AP, AR, general ledger and reconciliations
- Process weekly payroll, including taxes, deductions, benefits and garnishments
- Own month-end close and prepare P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting
- Manage job costing and project accounting across active construction projects
- Handle vendor invoicing and payments, including progress billing when applicable
- Maintain insurance, workers’ compensation, sales tax and other compliance records
- Work directly with the CEO and outside CPA on year-end tax preparation and audits
- Partner with operations and project teams on accounting and job-cost matters
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency through technology, automation and AI
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of hands-on accounting or full-charge bookkeeping experience
- Construction or contracting accounting experience is required
- Strong QuickBooks and Excel skills
- Hands-on payroll experience; Paycom or similar payroll system experience preferred
- Job costing/project accounting experience
- Ability and confidence to independently manage an accounting function from start to finish
- Strong attention to detail, organization and follow-through
- Comfortable working independently while partnering closely with the CEO and other areas of the business
- Tech-savvy and interested in finding better, more efficient ways to get things done
- Notary Public and/or bilingual capabilities are a plus
- No supervisory or people-management experience required
