Are you the electrician everyone calls when production stops?

If your answer is yes, this role is for you. As a Plant Automation Electrician (Journeyperson), you’ll be the problem-solver who keeps Rochester’s manufacturing equipment wired, tuned, and online. You’ll tackle challenging diagnostics, execute precision installs, and lead preventive work that keeps our lines moving.

Your impact

- Plan and install electrical circuits and control systems across industrial machinery.

- Diagnose complex faults in equipment and components—fast—so production stays on schedule.

- Perform scheduled and on-demand maintenance on plant equipment and automation.

- Read, interpret, and apply schematics and wiring diagrams with accuracy.

- Model OSHA and GM safety practices; foster a culture of safety and teamwork.

- Contribute ideas that elevate reliability and continuous improvement efforts.

What it takes to succeed

- Six (6)+ years of related electrician experience OR a U.S. Department of Labor Certificate of Completion in the Electrical trade.

- At least 18 years old.

- Willing and able to work day, afternoon, or night shifts; overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required with limited notice.

- Strong troubleshooting mindset and collaborative approach.

- Current GM employees working under a collective bargaining agreement should contact local HR/LR for placement guidance.

Physical capabilities

- Immediate response to alarms and safety direction.

- Extended standing; occasional seated work.

- Consistent PPE use; safe navigation of busy work areas.

- Ability to bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and reach; lift/carry up to 50 lbs. depending on department needs.

- Operate mobile equipment as required.

Rewards and work setting

- Compensation may be at the Journeyperson in Training (JIT) level: $37.77–$44.06, or Journeyperson rate: $44.96. Determined by certificates/credentials and interview scoring.

- Competitive UAW hourly package with benefits and potential annual incentive payout for qualified team members.

- Onsite position: full-time presence at an assigned GM location.

- Relocation and travel are typically candidate-paid; this role may be eligible for relocation benefits.
