At General Motors’ Milford Proving Grounds Energy & Emissions Laboratories, you’ll support the EMT organization—specifying, sourcing, integrating, commissioning, and maintaining test equipment that underpins GM’s Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, Zero Congestion vision. You’ll report to the EMT Group Leader and collaborate with engineers who rely on your systems expertise every day.
Questions to consider
- Do you operate, diagnose, and maintain large-tonnage chillers—and hold (or work with) a Universal Refrigerant Handlers License?
- Are you fluent in low-pressure, low-temperature refrigeration across DX, flooded, and absorption platforms?
- Have you worked with reciprocating, screw, scroll, and centrifugal compressors?
- Can you support both air- and water-cooled condenser configurations?
- Can you read complex wiring schematics and troubleshoot redundant or mixed-voltage circuits up to 480V?
- Are you able to trace and resolve building electrical distribution issues?
- Do you use a multimeter, megger, and signal generator with confidence?
- Do you understand shut trip operation, integrate gas-detection systems, and troubleshoot multi-feed designs?
- Have you diagnosed solar array panels and UPS systems?
- Are you comfortable working safely around high voltage up to 4160V?
- Do you understand mechanical pump circuits with bypass control and multiple loads, and can you read mechanical one-line drawings?
- Have you supported pneumatic control/actuated systems?
- Is preventive maintenance across building and process equipment second nature to you?
- Do you understand wind tunnel design, operation, and troubleshooting?
- Are you experienced with steam for heating, humidity control, and building systems, including generation?
- Can you troubleshoot steam traps, condensate systems, and steam-to-product heat exchangers?
- Do you manage chemistry and pH control in product systems?
- Can you tune and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives?
- Are you trained in rigging equipment and stabilizing awkward loads?
- Can you operate forklifts, powered man lifts, and similar service equipment?
- Do you perform precision alignment with dial indicators and laser tools?
- Are you familiar with vibration data collection, ultrasonic testing, and thermal imaging for predictive maintenance?
- Can you meet physical demands such as heavy lifting, heights, and temperature extremes?
- Are you organized, safety-driven, and a clear communicator who thrives on timelines?
- Can you serve as a go-to contact for stakeholders on EMT operations and planning?
- Do you monitor tasks, report status, and escalate roadblocks proactively?
- Are you comfortable as a technical resource for internal teams and suppliers?
- Can you build and run a preventive maintenance program for critical test infrastructure?
Must-haves
- 5+ years in large-tonnage chiller service.
- Proficiency with Maximo for PM, planning, and execution.
- Ability to work autonomously in complex environments and manage multiple maintenance events.
- Experience with equipment used in Emissions Development and Certification testing (building and process).
- Hands-on use of building management systems for diagnostics and troubleshooting.
- Experience partnering with equipment suppliers and installation contractors.
- Proven effectiveness within multi-disciplinary teams handling complex issues.
- Ability to read/interpret P&IDs, one-lines, and electrical/control schematics.
Bonus points
- 10+ years in chiller service roles.
- Wind tunnel design/operation/troubleshooting background.
- Knowledge of pump circuits, steam, humidity control, Reverse Osmosis, and CAP DI systems for process operations.
- Familiarity with vibration data collection, ultrasonic testing, and thermal imaging in predictive maintenance.
- Advanced Maximo expertise for PM planning and execution.
- Industrial equipment maintenance process experience.
- Work experience in ISO 17025 or ISO 9001 accredited environments.

Onsite at GM’s Milford Proving Grounds Energy & Emissions Laboratories, supporting engineers who rely on accurate, available test systems.
This role is categorized as onsite. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location on a full-time basis.
