Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced QA/QC Engineer with 8+ years of relevant experience in large-scale steel projects. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in steel erection inspection, structural steel fabrication, installation, welding inspection, quality control, and documentation.
The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all steel works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, ITPs, project quality requirements, and applicable international standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect and monitor structural steel erection and installation activities at site.
- Conduct inspections of steel members, columns, beams, bracings, platforms, connections, and associated steel structures.
- Verify steel erection works against approved IFC/shop drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
- Check material identification, traceability, certificates, and compliance with approved material specifications.
- Inspect incoming steel materials and verify quantities, dimensions, grades, and physical condition.
- Monitor steel fabrication and erection activities to ensure compliance with approved procedures.
- Inspect bolted connections, including high-strength bolts, tightening, torqueing, and installation requirements.
- Inspect welded connections and ensure compliance with approved WPS/PQR and welding procedures.
- Coordinate with welding inspectors and NDT personnel for required inspections and testing.
- Review and verify NDT reports, including UT, MT, PT, RT, where applicable.
- Monitor welding quality, welder qualifications, consumables, preheating, interpass temperature, and welding parameters.
- Check alignment, level, plumbness, dimensions, tolerances, and positioning of erected steel structures.
- Conduct inspection of steel erection sequence and temporary/permanent connections.
- Raise and follow up Inspection Requests (IR/WIR) for completed works.
- Prepare and maintain inspection checklists, quality records, and inspection documentation.
- Ensure implementation of the approved Inspection and Test Plan (ITP).
- Review method statements, inspection procedures, and quality control documents related to steel works.
- Identify non-conformities and coordinate corrective and preventive actions.
- Prepare, issue, and follow up Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) when required.
- Monitor rectification of defective or non-compliant steel works and verify close-out.
- Coordinate with construction, engineering, subcontractor, consultant, and client teams regarding quality issues.
- Conduct regular site inspections and quality surveillance of ongoing steel erection activities.
- Verify survey reports and dimensional checks related to steel structures.
- Ensure proper documentation and traceability of inspection and testing activities.
- Review material test certificates, mill certificates, welding records, bolt certificates, and related quality documents.
- Maintain QA/QC logs, inspection records, test reports, NCR logs, and quality dossiers.
- Support preparation and compilation of project QA/QC dossiers and handover documentation.
- Participate in quality meetings, inspections, audits, and coordination meetings.
- Ensure all works comply with approved project specifications, applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Promote a strong quality culture and ensure that quality requirements are communicated to site teams.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 8+ years of relevant QA/QC experience.
- Strong experience in large-scale structural steel projects.
- Proven hands-on experience in steel erection inspection and quality control.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, erection, welding, bolting, and inspection procedures.
- Experience working with ITPs, Method Statements, WIR/IR, NCRs, MIRs, checklists, and QA/QC documentation.
- Good knowledge of welding inspection and NDT requirements.
- Familiarity with relevant international standards and project specifications.
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, fabrication drawings, erection drawings, and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of steel erection tolerances, alignment, leveling, and dimensional control.
- Experience working on major construction/industrial/steel projects is highly preferred.
- UAE project experience will be an advantage.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced project environment.
Preferred Certifications
Relevant QA/QC and inspection certifications such as CSWIP, AWS, ASNT/PCN, ISO 9001, or equivalent will be an advantage, depending on project requirements.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate should be a technically strong QA/QC Engineer with extensive steel project experience, particularly in steel erection inspection, welding, bolting, structural alignment, quality documentation, and site inspection.
