To support continued growth, Yuno is expanding its Gas Shipping, Trading and Hedging team within its Forward Trading department. The team's objective is to maximise commercial opportunities by optimising the trading of wholesale power and gas flows across the UK, the Republic of Ireland and, in time, Northern Ireland.
This is a ground-floor opportunity to help build Yuno's All-Island gas and power capability from the outset, working closely with senior traders and shaping how the desk operates as it scales.
The Role
This role will support the expansion of Yuno's prompt and forward energy trading activities, identify and develop new commercial business opportunities, and strengthen relationships with supply-side counterparties to broaden the company's market presence and market coverage.
We welcome applications from recent graduates with a strong analytical foundation, as well as candidates who already bring experience in energy markets, trading support or commercial analysis. What matters most is curiosity about gas markets and the ability to work with rigour under time pressure. The role also requires strong Python and SQL skills to build automation, data pipelines and analytical tools, together with Git familiarity, software testing, code review and the evaluation of time-series and machine-learning models.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support senior management in developing Yuno's All-Island Gas Shipping & Energy Trading capability, enabling the efficient trading of energy and transportation of gas from the NBP to both the IBP and NIBP.
- Participate in gas and electricity trading desk operations, optimising prompt and day-ahead positions and maximising commercial value by reducing exposure to daily transmission and capacity costs through IBP trading and secondary capacity transfers.
- Manage the accurate processing of gas nominations and capacity bookings to minimise scheduling charges and prevent capacity overruns.
- Prepare, analyse and present monthly performance reports and trading KPIs, providing insights into trading performance, market trends, risk metrics and key commercial impact, and developing tools to improve in-house forecasts of wholesale commodity movements.
- Support senior management in the formulation, implementation and ongoing review of gas trading and hedging strategies, including monitoring fixed- and variable-price customer exposures across all Yuno Books to ensure consistency between systems of record and demand assumptions.
- Support senior management with gas tariff reviews for supply-side operations, including analysis of market conditions, costs and commercial impacts.
- Execute forward trades in electricity, gas, carbon and environmental certificates in line with the approved trading strategy and appropriate approvals, including flex trades on behalf of commercial customers, while maintaining strong broker and counterparty relationships and ensuring collateral is in place ahead of trading windows.
- Analyse the impact of new regulations and support new business opportunities, such as vertical integration and asset acquisitions.
- Develop, test and maintain internal systems, data pipelines and automated processes supporting trade reconciliation, trade administration (including trade logging, counterparty confirmations and EMIR/REMIT reporting where applicable) and other desk workflows, ensuring accurate, timely and auditable outputs.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise:
Essential
- A degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. computer science, data science, mathematics, physics, engineering, energy, economics, finance, business or a related field), or five years' experience in the energy industry within supply and generation, with a strong interest in energy markets.
- Strong working knowledge of Python, SQL and Power BI for data analysis, process automation and development of internal tools.
- Practical experience using Git and version-control workflows.
- Experience developing data pipelines and automating repeatable processes, and comfortable working with large volumes of data.
- Experience with time-series modelling and machine-learning evaluation, including appropriate backtesting and performance metrics.
- An understanding of natural gas markets, including supply and demand fundamentals and the role of wholesale gas trading, and of the Irish electricity and gas markets more broadly.
- An awareness of the gas supply chain and the commercial and physical journey of natural gas from the NBP to the Island of Ireland.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret market data and support commercial decision-making, along with strong problem-solving and attention to detail.
- Resourceful and proactive self-starter who enjoys accountability and ownership while working collaboratively within a team.
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with clear, concise and structured communication skills.
- Ability to follow, map and improve processes; adaptable and flexible in the face of changing priorities.
Desirable
- Familiarity with unit, integration and regression testing, together with code review, debugging and technical documentation.
- Experience with model monitoring, data-quality checks and anomaly detection.
- Prior exposure to gas or power trading, shipping, capacity management or portfolio optimisation, through internships, placements or professional experience.
- Familiarity with industry frameworks such as the GNI Code of Operations and GB UNC.

Please submit your CV and a short cover note outlining your interest in gas markets and relevant technical experience. We review applications on a rolling basis, so early applications are encouraged.
