Position Description
CGI is seeking an experienced Application Developer specializing in Microsoft Power BI to support business and technical reporting. The role will focus on gathering and analyzing business and technical requirements and translating them into effective Power BI reports, dashboards, and visualizations.
The successful candidate will bring experience in data visualization, data analysis, data modelling, data sourcing, data pipelines, and data ingestion into Power BI, along with a solid understanding of the Kimball data model. Strong communication skills are required to work effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, and clients.
This role is hybrid and requires you to work from our downtown Toronto and/or Client office one-two days per week.
Your future duties and responsibilities
- Elicit, analyze, document, and validate business and technical reporting requirements.
- Design, develop, document, test, and debug complex Microsoft Power BI reports, dashboards, visualizations, and supporting solutions.
- Apply data visualization and data analysis practices to produce clear and effective technical and business reporting.
- Work with data sources, data pipelines, and data ingestion processes supporting Power BI, and apply the Kimball data model when designing reporting and analytical solutions.
- Recommend and design solution structures and tools that meet business needs, working closely with clients and business analysts to identify and address requirements.
- Apply development concepts and best practices when designing, configuring, testing, and implementing solutions delivered on time and within budget.
- Document, evaluate, and propose architecture and design alternatives, validate design proposals, conduct technical reviews, and perform impact analysis for proposed changes.
- Provide client and business support using strong communication and presentation skills, while working autonomously during client engagements.
- Mentor and assist with the training and act as a team lead on projects when required.
- Collaborate across disciplines on application and reporting solutions, prepare technical documentation, ensure applicable coding, security, data, and architectural standards are met, and monitor relevant emerging technologies.
Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role
- More than 3 years of experience eliciting business requirements and building visualizations for technical and business reporting.
- Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Power BI.
- Strong data visualization, data analysis, and data modelling capabilities.
- Good understanding of the Kimball data model.
- Understanding of data sourcing, data pipelines, and data ingestion into Power BI.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts and reporting insights effectively to business and technical stakeholders.
- Competence in development best practices, clean code, quality assurance, and peer review.
- Ability to design, build, test, and assure the quality of applications and reporting solutions.
- Ability to specify solution behaviour and software components based on business and technical requirements.
- Understanding of current software development, architecture, and systems integration trends, including cloud platforms, automation, APIs, DevOps, and mobile technologies.
- Understanding of secure software development practices that protect application and data confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
- Knowledge of database development, including CRUD procedures and functions.
- Ability to work independently in a client-facing environment while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

- Development certifications.
- Commercial technology certifications, including Microsoft or Java.
- Open source product certifications.
- Cloud certifications, including Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or AWS.
- RCDA.
- Agile certifications, including Certified SAFe Agile Software Engineer or Professional Scrum Developer.
- Security certifications.
- MIET – Member of IET.
- ISC2 CSSLP.
CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $65,000–$115,000. This role is an existing vacancy.
