Role Overview
The Commercial Plumbing Estimator will produce takeoffs and estimates for commercial plumbing opportunities. This position works closely with project managers and commercial leadership to provide accurate, well-documented estimates that support bid decisions and set project managers up to execute projects profitably.
The successful candidate will work within the client's estimating systems and standards and follow the direction of commercial leadership.
What You Will Do
- Perform complete takeoffs from plans and specifications for commercial plumbing projects, including underground, above-ground, fixtures, gas, medical gas, and lab systems.
- Build detailed estimates including labor, material, equipment, subcontractors, and permits.
- Solicit and level vendor and subcontractor quotes.
- Prepare accurate, well-documented estimates to support leadership's bid/no-bid decisions.
- Manage the bid calendar and meet deadlines.
- Hand off awarded projects to project managers with full scope, budget, and buyout plan.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site walks as needed.
- Learn and apply the client's estimating standards, assemblies, and historical job cost data.
- Review actual job costs against estimates and refine pricing accuracy over time.
What You Need
- 3+ years of estimating experience in the plumbing trade on commercial projects.
- Strong plan and specification reading ability, including underground, above-ground, fixtures, gas, medical gas, and lab systems.
- Proficiency with takeoff and estimating software.
- Ability to learn and work within the client's estimating system, including FastPIPE.
- Track record of accurate, on-time bids.
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through under deadline pressure.
- Coachable and collaborative.
Nice to Have
- Prior FastEST/FastPIPE experience.
- Plumbing field experience or trade licensure.
- Vendor and subcontractor relationships in the Triangle market.
- Experience with Sage 300 or similar construction accounting systems.
- Familiarity with percentage-of-completion job cost reporting.
