Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Data Modeler to join a large-scale banking and capital markets transformation program, delivered from our Nearshore center in Poland.
You will analyze legacy and Finacle core banking data models, map entities and attributes across source and target systems, and define the logical mappings that underpin data migration, integration, and reporting. You will support façade data requirements for downstream consumption, define data quality rules, maintain data lineage, and align certified datasets and Power BI semantic models to reporting needs.
This is a hands-on specialist role for someone who combines rigorous logical and dimensional data modelling craft with strong collaboration across data engineering, business analysis, and reporting teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Model Analysis & Mapping
- Analyze legacy source data models and the Finacle client data model, documenting entities, attributes, keys, relationships, and constraints.
- Perform detailed source-to-target mappings, including transformation logic, derivations, default values, and enrichment rules.
- Conduct entity/attribute analysis to resolve naming conflicts, synonyms, homonyms, and structural differences between legacy and target models.
- Map client data models to the program's canonical/target model, ensuring semantic consistency and traceability.
- Produce and maintain mapping specifications and data dictionaries as the single source of truth for data engineering teams.
2. Logical & Dimensional Modelling
- Develop logical data models capturing business entities, relationships, and attributes, aligned to the program's data architecture standards.
- Design dimensional models — fact tables (transactional, snapshot, accumulating), dimension tables (conformed, slowly changing dimensions/SCD Types 1/2/3), and star schemas optimized for analytical queries.
- Define surrogate key strategies, grain statements, and hierarchy structures (e.g., account hierarchies, organizational structures).
- Ensure models support reporting requirements, including drill-down, aggregation, and time-based analysis.
3. Façade & Certified Dataset Support
- Support façade data requirements — defining the views, datasets, and interfaces that expose legacy and Finacle data to downstream systems in a controlled, harmonized manner.
- Define and document certified datasets — governed, quality-assured data products that serve as trusted sources for Power BI semantic models.
- Collaborate with data engineers and report developers to ensure semantic models accurately reflect the certified datasets and business definitions.
4. Data Quality, Lineage & Governance
- Define data quality rules — completeness, accuracy, validity, consistency, uniqueness, and referential integrity checks — for migration, integration, and reporting datasets.
- Maintain data lineage documentation (source → staging → target → semantic model → report), supporting impact analysis and regulatory auditability (e.g., BCBS 239 alignment).
- Support the business glossary: capturing business term definitions, metric definitions, and data ownership, in collaboration with business analysts and data stewards.
- Participate in data governance forums, contributing to data standards adoption and issue resolution.
5. Collaboration & Validation
- Work closely with Business Analysts and Proxy Product Owners to validate mapped business concepts against requirements.
- Partner with data engineers to review physical implementations of logical models, ensuring performance and maintainability.
- Support reconciliation and migration validation activities — ensuring mapped data balances, reconciles, and meets defined quality thresholds.
- Conduct model walkthroughs with technical and business stakeholders to secure sign-off on mappings and models.
Required Skills & Competencies
Primary Skills (Must-Have)
- Logical Data Modelling — entity-relationship modelling, normalization/denormalization, key management, and relationship cardinality.
- Source-to-Target Mapping — detailed mapping specification, transformation logic definition, and data dictionary maintenance.
