Freelance Field Service Engineer – Ion Implantation
📍 Ireland – Onsite
📅 Long-term project throughout 2027
💼 Freelance / Contract
🏭 Semiconductor Capital Equipment
Optimus Search is looking for experienced Field Service Engineers specialising in Ion Implantation equipment for a major semiconductor equipment installation and service programme in Ireland.
The project will involve the installation and support of a significant number of complex ion implantation systems, with multiple tools expected to arrive and be commissioned throughout the programme.
We are particularly interested in engineers who have previously worked for semiconductor equipment manufacturers supporting ion implant / ion beam systems.
Responsibilities
- Installation and commissioning of complex ion implantation equipment
- Tool start-up, qualification and production ramp
- Preventive and corrective maintenance
- Troubleshooting equipment failures and minimising tool downtime
- Diagnostics across complex electrical, electronic and mechanical systems
- Working with vacuum systems, pumps, beam technology and associated process equipment
- Fault finding and root-cause analysis
- Equipment calibration and performance optimisation
- Supporting hardware and software upgrades
- Working directly with semiconductor fab engineering teams
- Technical escalation and documentation
- Providing onsite support throughout installation and production phases
Ideal Background
Direct ion implantation experience is Essential
We would also consider highly experienced Semiconductor Field Service / Equipment Engineers who have supported large, complex process tools and have strong exposure to:
- High-vacuum systems
- Vacuum pumps
- Plasma / process gases
- Ion beam / beamline technology
- High-voltage equipment
- Electrical & electronic troubleshooting
- Mechanical systems
- Wafer handling / robotics
- Semiconductor cleanroom environments
Candidate Profile
You should be a genuinely hands-on engineer capable of independently diagnosing and resolving complex equipment issues within a semiconductor manufacturing environment.
Previous experience installing, commissioning or servicing semiconductor capital equipment at customer fabs is essential.
Engineers coming directly from ion implantation equipment will be particularly attractive, as they should be able to transition quickly onto the equipment with limited additional technical training.
