Assistant Controller – Manufacturing

Position Summary
Our client is a growing manufacturing organization seeking a hands-on Assistant Controller to join its accounting leadership team in Irving, TX. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced manufacturing accounting professional who wants to take on increased responsibility, work closely with senior leadership, and position themselves for future advancement into a Controller-level role.
The Assistant Controller will partner closely with the CFO and accounting leadership team to oversee financial reporting, month-end close, cost accounting, inventory, fixed assets, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and process improvement.
The ideal candidate is someone who understands manufacturing accounting beyond the journal entry level and is comfortable rolling up their sleeves to analyze costs, identify variances, improve processes, and partner with operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare and review financial statements, account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and variance analyses.
- Oversee cost accounting, including standard costs, BOMs, labor, overhead, production costs, and manufacturing variances.
- Manage and analyze inventory accounting, including inventory valuation, reserves, cycle counts, and physical inventory.
- Oversee fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, reconciliations, and capital expenditures.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and financial planning.
- Partner with operations and plant leadership to improve cost visibility, profitability, and financial performance.
- Strengthen accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting procedures.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through ERP optimization, automation, and process improvements.
- Support audits and ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Assist with acquisitions, integrations, and financial system transitions as the organization continues to grow.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight to accounting staff.
- Serve as a key accounting partner to the CFO and provide backup support across the accounting function.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong background in cost accounting and inventory accounting.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Experience with month-end close, reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation.
- Strong Excel skills and experience working with an ERP system.
- Experience with fixed assets, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
- CPA or CMA certification, or actively pursuing certification, is a plus.
- Acquisition integration or private equity-backed manufacturing experience is highly preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Must be willing to work onsite in Irving, TX.
