Senior AMO Physicist
Location: Oxfordshire, UK
Working pattern: On-site
We are partnering with an ambitious quantum-hardware company seeking a Senior AMO Physicist to join its UK experimental team.
You will help develop and improve a next-generation quantum-processing platform, working at the interface of experimental atomic physics, precision hardware and system-level performance. This role will suit someone who wants their experimental expertise to translate into practical, high-impact quantum technology.
The role
- Support the development, integration and testing of advanced experimental quantum hardware
- Run, calibrate and improve complex physics-led systems
- Work with engineering colleagues to validate components, modules and subsystems
- Investigate experimental noise, instability and performance limitations
- Analyse experimental data and use findings to guide system improvements
- Collaborate with physicists, engineers and software specialists across the wider technical programme
- Contribute to the mentoring and development of junior team members
About you
- PhD in experimental AMO physics or a related field
- Hands-on experience building or operating advanced atomic-physics or quantum-hardware experiments
- Strong experimental judgement and a track record of delivering meaningful research or technical outcomes
- Programming skills in Python, C++ or similar
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating across a multidisciplinary R&D team
- Willingness to travel occasionally for project and team collaboration
This is a strong opportunity to join a well-backed team at an important stage of its experimental development.
