Claude Code AI Data Engineer – Remote – R650 per hour
DATA ENGINEERING IS EVOLVING. ARE YOU BUILDING WHAT COMES NEXT?
If you’re a Data Engineer who knows Claude Code, understands LLMs and enjoys building AI-powered systems, this is not your typical data engineering role.
We’re looking for a hands-on AI Data Engineer who can combine data engineering, large-scale data acquisition, LLM integrations and Agentic AI to build intelligent solutions that actually work in production.
This is for someone who likes getting into the detail — building pipelines, connecting systems, working with APIs and data sources, and creating AI agents that can reason, retrieve information and use tools to get things done.
CLAUDE CODE + DATA + AI
You’ll be working at the intersection of:
Data Engineering
AI & LLMs
Agentic Workflows
Data Acquisition & Scraping
Cloud & Modern Data Platforms
The goal?
Build scalable, intelligent and reliable systems that can move data, understand information and automate complex processes.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
You’ll be responsible for building and improving modern data and AI solutions, including:
- Designing scalable batch and near-real-time data pipelines
- Building data ingestion solutions across APIs, databases, files, event streams and web sources
- Developing large-scale scraping and data acquisition systems
- Cleaning, validating, transforming and modelling data for analytics and AI
- Building LLM-powered workflows and Agentic AI solutions
- Working with tool calling, structured outputs and RAG
- Connecting AI systems to APIs, databases and enterprise data
- Supporting modern data lake, warehouse and lakehouse architectures
- Building monitoring, observability and data quality controls
- Developing secure, maintainable production-grade solutions
- Working closely with engineering teams to take ideas from prototype to production
THE TECH STACK:
We’re looking for strong hands-on experience with:
Python and/or Node.js / TypeScript
Advanced SQL & relational databases
AWS or similar cloud platforms
Data lakes / warehouses / lakehouses
LLM platforms such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini or Bedrock
You should also have experience with Agentic AI concepts, including:
Tool use | Task decomposition | Retrieval | Memory | Human-in-the-loop
And when it comes to data acquisition:
Playwright | Puppeteer | Scrapy | Selenium
Experience with Docker, CI/CD, testing, APIs and secure engineering practices is also important.
THE BIG ONE: CLAUDE CODE
Hands-on experience with Claude Code is specifically required.
We’re looking for someone who is already comfortable using AI-assisted development as part of their engineering workflow — not someone who has simply experimented with AI tools.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
A builder.
Someone who enjoys taking a messy data problem and figuring out how to solve it.
Someone who can move comfortably between data pipelines, cloud infrastructure, APIs, LLMs and AI agents.
You should be equally comfortable asking:
“How do we get the data?”
and
“How do we make the AI actually do something useful with it?”
