We’re looking for a Java System Design Specialist to join a fast-growing technology environment where you’ll have the opportunity to influence technical direction while still being hands-on with development.

THIS IS MORE THAN A JAVA ROLE
We’re looking for an engineer who can see beyond the individual application and understand the bigger picture.
You’ll be working with complex systems where decisions around architecture, integration, data and infrastructure really matter.
You should be comfortable thinking about:
Scalability.
Performance.
Availability.
Security.
Resilience.
Maintainability.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- 9+ years’ professional software development experience
- Strong commercial Java experience
- Strong Spring Boot / Spring Framework
- Proven experience building backend services and APIs
- Strong System Design and Software Architecture experience
- Experience designing scalable, highly available distributed systems
- Strong understanding of microservices and/or service-oriented architecture
- Experience with event-driven systems, messaging and asynchronous processing
- Strong database design and data modelling experience
- Cloud experience across AWS, Azure or GCP
- Experience with React, TypeScript and/or JavaScript
- Understanding of API security and authentication
- Experience working in Agile engineering environments
- Comfortable operating independently on complex technical challenges
YOUR ENVIRONMENT
You’ll ideally have experience with:
PostgreSQL / MySQL | Redis | NoSQL
Docker | Kubernetes
Cloud platforms | CI/CD
Monitoring | Logging | Observability
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
This is where your experience in system design and engineering comes into play.
You’ll:
- Design and develop high-performance applications and services
- Contribute to architecture and technical design decisions
- Build robust backend solutions and integrations
- Design for scalability, availability and resilience
- Work across distributed and microservice-based environments
- Develop and optimise data solutions
- Contribute to cloud and deployment strategies
- Help maintain strong engineering, security and development practices
- Collaborate with developers, stakeholders and other technical teams
- Solve complex problems with a high degree of autonomy

You’re a senior developer who thinks beyond the code.
You understand that good architecture isn't simply about choosing the right technology — it's about understanding trade-offs, scalability, reliability, performance and business requirements.
You’ve actually designed and built systems, not just worked from someone else's architecture.
