System Engineer – Drive By Wire (DBW) Systems
Location : Peoria, IL
- Responsible for system architecture, requirements engineering, interface definition, integration, validation, and functional safety activities for Drive-By-Wire (DBW), autonomous hauling, and machine control systems. Collaborate with software, hardware, controls, autonomy, and validation teams to deliver safe, reliable, and scalable DBW solutions supporting next-generation autonomous vehicle platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Define system architecture, subsystem interfaces, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and requirements traceability.
- Lead requirements decomposition and allocation across software, controls, electrical, and vehicle subsystems.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of requirements management, system integration, diagnostics, and validation processes.
- Experience with Functional Safety, FMEA, STPA, Verification & Validation (V&V), and system troubleshooting.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
- Perform system-level analysis including FMEA, STPA, hazard analysis, and safety assessments.
- Integrate steering, braking, propulsion, chassis, hoist, auxiliary, and autonomy interface functions.
- Define CAN/J1939/Ethernet communication architectures, diagnostics, fail-safe strategies, watchdogs, and fault management.
- Coordinate SIL, HIL, fault-injection, integration, and vehicle-level validation activities.
- Analyze system performance, investigate failures, and drive root-cause resolution.
- Support calibration, tuning, deployment, and on-machine validation at proving grounds and customer sites.
- Participate in design reviews, technical reviews, milestone assessments, and customer discussions.
- Maintain system requirements, verification artifacts, risk registers, and compliance documentation.
