This is a hands-on quality role for someone who likes being close to production, solving problems at the source and seeing corrective actions through to completion.
An established Rochester-area manufacturer is seeking a Quality Engineer to support high-volume production. The person in this role will manage quality activities for assigned products, coordinate customer and supplier issues, maintain required documentation and help improve manufacturing performance.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day quality activities for assigned products and manufacturing processes.
- Prepare and maintain production quality documents, including process flow diagrams, Control Plans, inspection instructions and product records.
- Coordinate customer approval packages for new products and changes, including PPAP documentation and supporting evidence.
- Address customer and supplier quality concerns, coordinate containment and complete root-cause and corrective-action reports within required timelines.
- Manage nonconforming material through review, disposition, sorting, rework and verification.
- Use inspection results and statistical data to evaluate process stability, capability and product conformance.
- Support the qualification of new or modified tooling, materials and manufacturing processes.
- Work with production, engineering, tooling and suppliers to resolve recurring issues, develop inspection methods, train quality personnel and support audits.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, quality, manufacturing or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- At least two years of quality experience in automotive, high-volume or closely related manufacturing.
- Experience with PPAPs, Control Plans, process flow diagrams, PFMEAs and related manufacturing quality documentation.
- Knowledge of SPC, MSA, gauge repeatability and reproducibility, process capability and basic statistical analysis.
- Experience leading 8D investigations, root-cause analysis, containment and corrective action.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing concepts in a production environment.
- Experience communicating with customers and suppliers and supporting tooling or process changes.
- IATF 16949 experience is preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience with Minitab or similar statistical software are helpful.
