L1 IT Engineer – Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux systems (Ubuntu / CentOS) and Windows operating systems (Windows 10/11).
- Monitor system performance, uptime, and system security for both Linux and Windows environments.
- Troubleshoot OS, application, and network-related issues on Linux and Windows systems.
- Perform installation, configuration, and basic administration of Windows and Linux servers and workstations.
- Manage user accounts, access permissions, and system configurations in Linux and Active Directory environments.
- Provide first-level support for desktop, laptop, and network-related issues.
- Perform system patching, OS updates, antivirus updates, and backup management.
- Monitor system logs, alerts, and events and proactively resolve issues.
- Support printer, network connectivity, VPN, and email-related issues for end users.
- Assist in installation and troubleshooting of enterprise applications and IT tools.
- Coordinate with network, security, and application teams for incident resolution and escalation.
- Maintain IT documentation, incident reports, troubleshooting guides, and SOPs.
- Ensure compliance with IT security policies and best practices.
- Provide technical support to internal users via a ticketing system, phone, or remote support tools.
Required Skills
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of Linux OS (Ubuntu preferred).
- Good understanding of Windows OS administration (Windows 10/11).
- Familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, and user account management.
- Hands-on experience with Linux command line (CLI).
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, SSH).
- Basic understanding of system monitoring tools and event logs (Linux logs / Windows Event Viewer).
- Familiarity with antivirus, endpoint security, and patch management.
- Understanding of backup and recovery concepts.
- Good troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills and ability to support end users.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma / Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 2–4 years of experience in IT operations or Linux / Windows system support.
- Familiarity with IT monitoring tools and ticketing systems.
