Construction Manager – Mission Critical / Data Centers
Roles available in Frederick, MD, Pittsburgh, PA, Salt Lake City, UT, West Texas and
additional Texas locations
If you're a Superintendent or Construction Manager who prefers being on the jobsite driving execution rather than sitting behind a laptop managing spreadsheets, this could be a very interesting next step.
I'm supporting a rapidly growing mission-critical engineering and construction business delivering major data center projects across the US.
They currently have around 12 projects in execution, several hundred million dollars of backlog and further projects progressing through the pipeline.
They're looking for Construction Managers who can become the link between the field, subcontractors, General Contractor, client, engineering team and Project Management team.
The Role
This isn't a traditional Project Manager position.
You'll be responsible for making sure the work actually gets built successfully in the field.
That includes:
- Leading day-to-day field coordination across major construction projects.
- Managing subcontractors and trade partners.
- Working directly with the GC and client.
- Driving schedule, quality and safe execution.
- Identifying field issues, scope gaps and potential change orders.
- Feeding site information back into the engineering and project management teams.
- Coordinating installation activities across multiple trades.
- Supporting projects from construction through testing and handover.
The projects are focused around mission-critical controls infrastructure including:
- Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS)
- Low-voltage controls
- Fibre and structured cabling
- Controls panels and field devices
- Mechanical/HVAC interfaces
- Electrical equipment monitoring
You do not need to be a BMS programmer or controls engineer.
The priority is somebody who understands construction execution and knows how to successfully run work in the field.
What We're Looking For
The strongest candidates will have:
- Significant construction field experience.
- Superintendent, General Superintendent or Construction Manager experience.
- Strong subcontractor/trade management skills.
- Experience coordinating complex construction activities.
- Excellent understanding of construction sequencing.
- Strong safety awareness.
- Experience working directly with GCs, clients and project teams.
- Some understanding of change orders, scope changes and commercial processes.
Previous data center experience would be highly beneficial, but it is not essential.
Candidates from complex electrical, mechanical, low-voltage, industrial, healthcare, semiconductor or other mission-critical construction environments will also be considered.
Why Consider It?
There is significant long-term opportunity here.
The business currently has 12 mission-critical projects underway and several hundred million dollars of backlog, with individual campuses often providing several years of continuous work.
The construction organisation is also growing, creating a genuine pathway from:
Construction Manager → Regional Construction Manager → wider construction leadership
The company has a strong culture of promoting from within and actively tries to retain good people by creating new internal opportunities as employees develop.
Depending on the project, packages can also include:
- Competitive base salary.
- Relocation support.
- Per diem / living allowances.
- Additional straight-time payment for hours worked.
- Project completion incentives.
- Quarterly and annual profit-sharing opportunities.
Current and upcoming opportunities include:
Frederick, MD
Pittsburgh, PA
Salt Lake City, UT
West Texas
Additional Texas locations
Relocation support can be considered for the right individuals.
If you're currently a Superintendent, Senior Superintendent, Construction Manager or field-focused Project Manager and want to move further into the rapidly expanding data center market, I'd be interested in speaking with you.
