Department: Fraud & Risk / Strategy & Investigations

Location: Remote – Pacific Time hours strongly preferred

Candidates located near San Diego, CA who are able to work in-office may receive preference. Candidates near Charlotte, NC who are open to hybrid work may also be considered.

Job Description

We are seeking a Fraud & Risk Operations Analyst to join a collaborative Strategy and Investigations team responsible for identifying and investigating potentially fraudulent activity across consumer accounts and digital products.

This is a heavily operations-focused position, with approximately 95% of the role centered around fraud operations and investigations and a smaller portion involving data analysis. The Analyst will review datasets, identify suspicious patterns or abnormal activity and investigate potential account fraud. Findings will be escalated and reviewed collaboratively with other members of the fraud and investigations team.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience investigating

Account Opening Fraud and Account Takeover, is comfortable analyzing information across multiple Google Sheets and has some previous exposure to SQL. Advanced SQL or business intelligence experience is not required.

Duties And Responsibilities

- Investigate suspicious account activity and potential fraud.

- Identify patterns, anomalies and unusual activity within fraud-related datasets.

- Investigate potential Account Opening Fraud and Account Takeover activity.

- Review indicators such as emails, IP addresses, credentials, account activity and other fraud signals.

- Compare and analyze information across multiple Google Sheets.

- Use basic formulas and data comparison techniques within Google Sheets.

- Escalate suspicious or complex activity to senior analysts and investigators.

- Collaborate with team members to determine appropriate actions on potentially fraudulent accounts.

- Document and communicate investigation findings clearly.

- Provide regular progress updates to management and team members.

- Participate actively in remote team meetings and one-on-one meetings.

- Potentially assist with account resets, deactivations or other remediation activities after gaining experience and approval from the team.

Required Experience / Skills

- Previous hands-on experience with fraud and risk investigations.

- Experience investigating Account Opening Fraud (AOF).

- Experience investigating Account Takeover (ATO).

- Strong ability to recognize suspicious patterns and anomalous account activity.

- Comfortable working with and comparing data across multiple Google Sheets.

- Ability to use basic spreadsheet formulas and navigate multiple datasets.

- Previous exposure to SQL with a basic understanding of queries and data analysis.

- Strong analytical and investigative mindset.

- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and proactively provide updates.

- Comfortable working remotely while remaining actively engaged with the team.

- Ability to work Pacific Time business hours is strongly preferred.

Nice-to-Haves

- Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) experience.

- Experience within fintech, financial services, banking, payments or consumer credit.

- Additional data analytics experience.

- Exposure to BI or dashboarding tools.

- Experience working with distributed or remote fraud-investigation teams.

- Previous experience in a fast-paced technology company.

Work Environment

This position may be performed remotely; however, candidates must be able to collaborate effectively with a distributed team.

Pacific Time hours are strongly preferred. Candidates located in San Diego who can work from the local office may have an advantage. Candidates located near Charlotte who are open to hybrid work may also be considered.

Remote employees should be comfortable actively participating in video meetings, particularly team meetings and one-on-one meetings.

Interview Process

The Interview Process Is Expected To Include

- Round 1: Approximately 60 minutes with one or two team members, primarily focused on scenario-based fraud and investigation questions.

- Round 2: Approximately 30 minutes with the hiring manager focused primarily on team fit and working style.

Candidates may encounter some very basic SQL-related questions, but this is not expected to be a heavily technical SQL interview.
