A growing, privately held lender based in the Los Angeles area is seeking an Accounting Manager to join its team. The firm provides senior and subordinated financing up to small and lower middle-market businesses nationally, secured by equipment and real estate collateral, with deep expertise in heavy equipment and commercial real estate lending. The company has seen strong momentum, including a 25% increase in funded deals last year.
The Accounting Manager will report directly to the CFO and take primary ownership of monthly financial statement preparation, directly supervising a team of two accounting staff. This is a balanced role — roughly split between preparing and reviewing the work — with real input into process improvement and close collaboration with executive management on financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting. The company offers significant room to grow, with a path toward a Controller-level seat for the right candidate.
Responsibilities:
- Own Financial Reporting: Take primary ownership of monthly financial statements, with support from the CFO.
- Manage the Team: Directly supervise two accounting/finance staff and oversee the reconciliation process.
- Drive Daily Operations: Prepare and oversee journal entries for daily and month-end close, including entries from the company's lending platform into QuickBooks.
- Support Audits & Banking: Manage periodic accounting and bank audits, and assist the CFO with bank relationships and reporting.
- Improve Process: Identify and drive opportunities to improve accuracy and efficiency in existing accounting policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of accounting experience, public or private; financial services experience a plus
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business/Finance
- CPA (or process of obtaining) strongly preferred
- Strong proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel
- Experience with account reconciliations, journal entries, and accrual calculations
- Prior experience managing or mentoring staff
- Comfortable in an on-site, in-office environment full-time
