About The Role

We are seeking a Machine Learning Engineer (Generative AI) to join a cross-functional team applying advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning to scientific discovery, materials innovation, and hardware design. This role offers the opportunity to work with large language models, generative AI, deep learning, and scientific data to develop domain-specific solutions with real-world impact. You will collaborate closely with scientists, engineers, and product leaders to transform emerging AI research into practical applications for materials science and advanced technology. The ideal candidate will have a strong research-oriented background in machine learning and generative AI, hands-on experience with LLM development and evaluation, and a passion for solving complex scientific and technical problems.

Responsibilities

- Develop, pretrain, fine-tune, and align large language models and generative models for scientific and materials science applications

- Develop domain-specific AI solutions using scientific literature, experimental data, simulation outputs, and technical workflows

- Research and implement advanced post-training, alignment, and evaluation techniques for specialized LLMs

- Design generative AI approaches to accelerate materials discovery, hypothesis generation, and hardware design

- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and product teams to identify high-impact applications for generative AI

- Build, curate, and maintain scientific datasets and benchmarks for model development and validation

- Design evaluation protocols to measure model accuracy, robustness, reliability, and performance

- Continuously research emerging developments in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and materials science

- Translate research concepts into practical, product-focused AI solutions

- Present technical findings and complex AI concepts to multidisciplinary audiences

- Publish original research and contribute to technical innovation

- Mentor junior team members and contribute to a collaborative research environment

Qualifications

- Master's or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical field

- Strong foundation in machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and generative AI

- Experience working with scientific or technical AI applications preferred

- Hands-on experience with LLM pretraining and supervised fine-tuning (SFT)

- Knowledge of post-training and alignment techniques such as RLHF

- Experience designing and implementing rigorous model evaluation methodologies

- Strong Python programming skills

- Experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow

- Experience working with structured and unstructured scientific datasets

- Strong analytical and research skills

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Ability to collaborate effectively across scientific, engineering, and product teams

Annual salary range of $131,000–$180,000
