We are currently looking for a Lead Engineer to guide a team working on Space Solar Arrays in Leiden.

In this role, you will act as the technical lead, guiding the designers through the development of Solar Arrays for satellites. You will make sure that the customer requirements are translated to the right technical solution, while working closely with Project and Product Managers, Sales and other Lead Engineers. You will guide the projects from early proposal to execution.

While you will be the technical authority for the project reviewing engineering solutions, coordinating technical activities, supporting project budgeting and planning, you will not make the designs yourself.

Main responsibilities

- You will lead the technical development of Solar Arrays for space.

- You will be interfacing with the client, translating their requirements into feasible technical solutions using existing portfolio or supporting the development of new solutions if needed.

- You will review and approve mechanical designs and 3D models.

- You will work closely with internal stakeholders like Project and Product Managers, Sales and other engineering teams.

- You will provide technical guidance throughout the whole project lifecycle.

- You will contribute to technical decision-making and continuous product and efficiency improvements.

Requirements

- You have an university degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics or another relevant discipline.

- You have 5-10 years of relevant engineering experience.

- Out of those, you have technically led teams for at least 2 years.

- You have experience with the High-Tech Manufacturing industry, or high-tech engineering environment.

- You have experience reviewing mechanical designs and technical drawings.

- You're a technically strong engineer with excellent communication skills.

- You have experience preparing engineering effort and cost estimates.

- You're proactive, hands-on and solution-oriented.

- You have great communication skills in English.

Nice-to-have's:

- Experience with CAD software, such as CATIA or similar.

- Experience with mechanical analysis tools like ANSYS.

- You communicate fluently in Dutch.

- You have experience within the space or aerospace industries.
