Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Technical Structural Engineer to join our project team for a large-scale building construction project.
The Technical Structural Engineer will be responsible for managing and coordinating the technical aspects of structural works, ensuring that construction activities are carried out in accordance with IFC drawings, approved shop drawings, project specifications, structural design requirements, applicable codes, and Consultant/Client requirements.
The position requires strong practical knowledge of structural construction, technical documentation, shop drawings, RFIs, material approvals, structural coordination, and the ability to resolve technical issues quickly and effectively.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Review & Engineering
- Review and interpret IFC structural drawings, specifications, design documents, BOQ, and contract requirements.
- Review structural shop drawings and ensure consistency with IFC drawings and approved design.
- Identify discrepancies, design conflicts, missing information, and constructability issues.
- Prepare and manage RFIs / Technical Queries for design clarifications.
- Review structural calculations and design information submitted by subcontractors and specialist contractors.
- Evaluate proposed technical solutions and alternatives from a constructability and compliance perspective.
- Provide technical support to the construction team in resolving structural issues.
- Ensure all structural works comply with approved drawings, specifications, codes, and project requirements.
Structural Construction Knowledge

- Review and coordinate structural shop drawings, fabrication drawings, rebar drawings, and erection drawings.
- Verify reinforcement layouts, bar sizes, spacing, laps, anchorage, development lengths, openings, embeds, and structural dimensions.
- Review structural steel fabrication and erection drawings where applicable.
- Coordinate shop drawings with architectural and MEP requirements.
- Identify clashes between structural elements and MEP/architectural services.
- Coordinate with CAD/BIM teams to ensure accurate technical drawings.
- Review and coordinate as-built drawings and ensure they reflect actual construction.
Structural Coordination
Coordinate structural requirements with:

Site Technical Support
- Provide day-to-day technical support to Site Engineers and Construction Teams.
- Attend site inspections and verify structural works against approved documents.
- Investigate site technical problems and propose practical and compliant solutions.
- Coordinate corrective actions arising from inspections.
- Support the team during concrete works, reinforcement inspections, structural steel erection, and other critical activities.
- Review site conditions against design assumptions and approved drawings.
- Escalate critical structural risks immediately.
QA/QC & Structural Compliance
- Review and support implementation of structural ITPs and Method Statements.
- Review Inspection Requests and technical documentation related to structural works.
- Support QA/QC in resolving structural NCRs, observations, and non-conformities.
- Review proposed corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure materials are approved before incorporation into the works.
- Verify compliance with approved concrete mix designs, reinforcement, structural steel, and other structural materials.
- Support concrete quality control activities, including coordination of testing and required documentation.
Technical Submittals
Review and coordinate technical submittals related to:
- Reinforcement steel
- Structural steel
- Concrete
- Cementitious materials
- Grouting materials
- Waterproofing systems affecting structural elements
- Formwork systems
- Post-tensioning systems
- Anchors and fixing systems
- Structural repair materials
- Chemical anchors
- Expansion joints
- Specialized structural systems
Codes & Standards
The candidate must have a good working knowledge of relevant structural codes and standards applicable to UAE building projects, including where applicable:
- ACI
- AISC
- ASCE
- ASTM
- BS / EN Standards
- UAE/local authority requirements
- Project-specific specifications and design criteria
The candidate must be capable of determining which project specification, code, standard, drawing, or approved document governs a particular technical issue.
BIM & Digital Coordination
- Understand structural models and BIM coordination processes.
- Review structural models and identify coordination issues.
- Coordinate with BIM teams during clash detection and resolution.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of Revit and Navisworks is preferred.
- Ability to work with AutoCAD and review model-based information.
Documentation & Technical Control
- Maintain RFI, technical query, submittal, shop drawing, NCR, and approval trackers.
- Follow up on pending Consultant/Client responses.
- Prepare technical reports and engineering correspondence.
- Maintain records of approved drawings, revisions, technical instructions, and design changes.
- Ensure that construction teams are working from the latest approved revisions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
- 4–7 years of relevant experience in large-scale building construction projects.
- Strong technical experience within a main contractor or construction environment.
- UAE construction experience is strongly preferred.
- Proven experience dealing with Consultants, Clients, subcontractors, and specialist contractors.
- Strong understanding of structural construction and technical coordination.
